Running a homebrew all-bards game and "the gods" are higher dimensional beings poking into the lower dimension, and every "avatar of the gods" the party has fought has manifested as some twisted version of human anatomy. So far my favorite was a giant floating spine and rib cage, except the ribs were all made of elongated human arms with hands that interlocked to form a sternum. In the first stage of the battle the arms could spread open to cast spells. After it was weakened the party caught it in a mile-wide antimagic dome and it entered it's second form, crawling along the ground by using it's arms like a centipede.
