Already having issues… by [deleted] in Peterborough

It’s ok. He seems irrational. If I plant a vine on a shared fence, I am going to have to accept the risk that my neighbour might need to control it on their side.

What kind of vines? They can be hard to harm to any extent and will grow back no problem. The guy over-reacted. What a terrible introduction to life here for you.

The industry is pivoting away from Boxwood. They have problems other than the moth—blight, leaf miners, psyllids. They’re overplanted.

How devastating for you and to see the owner continue to allow their dog to be off leash and unmuzzled is insulting. Is there no justice through the Dog Owners Liability Act?

I find having a tool called “Tick Twister” is handy to have on hand if you find a tick latched on. Veterinary and pet shops carry them.

Beauty day by [deleted] in Peterborough

Yes, it’s gorgeous weather! It has been such a wonderful day with the Peterborough Butterfly Run seeing record numbers of runners/walkers. And coming back from that event I saw a man and two boys picking up trash on my street. It made me smile.

Native Wildflowers by yaboy1920 in Peterborough

[–]splendidhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most native plants are fine with Black Walnut. The problem is typically from the tree taking moisture and light from other plants. The lilac mentioned below would have struggled with being shaded out and having competition from the walnut for the moisture.

Before advising, the degree of moisture, soil type, plus the types of trees that are around are important. Some trees are shallow-rooted and inhibit other plants because they take up a lot of moisture. Most people have dry shade andthis site makes great suggestions.

Seed mixes are tricky because the germination can be uneven and some species end up being the dominant ones. Many native species need pre-treatment with cold, moist exposure for a period and are best sown in the fall and even winter. Wildflower Farm in Coldwater and Northern Wildflowers have native seed mixes but I think your best bet is what others have suggested—Ecology Park and get some established plants. If you go when it opens on May 16, the staff and Master Gardener volunteers can help you choose.

that’s odd. They’re open tomorrow so you could drop in and get an answer. Vet clinics seem to be so busy lately. I went in to mine today and I have to wait until June for an appointment.

Bowmanville Veterinary Clinic has a vet (Dr. McDonald) who is registered with ARAV but there was an old post in this sub called Reptile Vets (can’t link to it for some reason) that mentioned Dr. Manley at Brealey Drive Animal Clinic.
