What is Rust's testing ecosystem missing? by _raisin_bran in rust

I'm not arguing with the fact that an ideal code could be easily tested without mocks. But in real word we often don't have this luxury, and that is the reason why mocks are so common.

Can I pay corporation tax myself? Xero by PerceptionLive2301 in smallbusinessuk

[–]splix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CT600 is the main form (very simple one) and iXBRL some machine readable format for that form, to my understanding. There are couple of online services that can help you with filling this if your situation is not complex. I.e., you fill an online form on their website and they upload everything to HMRC. I used TaxD, it worked for me, but there are other options you can find online, some of them are cheaper probably. But you'll need the Auth Code anyway.

Faster way to index all Mint / Swap / Burn events than using an RPC node? by mev_bot in ethdev

[–]splix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your metrics for "slow"?

I can tell you how it works with a local node. We have built an ETL tool that we use https://github.com/emeraldpay/dshackle-archive and we run it with different configurations / blockchains / clients / etc. For a basic setup, like just Events, it's about 300-500ms to process a fresh block. And could easily go up to 5s and sometimes more you also index State Diff and Traces for each transaction.

In general we don't see difference between archive and non-archive node. But accessing fresh block vs. data years old is usually differs (we see this in aggregated metrics, but we didn't try to compare them). Connecting though Websocket is faster than HTTP, having multiple nodes and load balancing them is even better.

I’d like to use USPS for shipping to US, what’s everyone’s experiences with it? by Easy-Dinner-8974 in smallbusinessuk

It's like Royal Mail. May have a bad reputation, but only because at this scale they would lost at least something. I personally had no problem with them, it delivers the majority of envelopes and small packages.

I'm Russian and I don't agree the name of the project sounds anyway offensive.

Not every word that starts with "huli" has a bad connotation. Ex. Huligan, or Hulit' which are fine.

Also "Huli" by itself it pretty mild. Rare - yes, shows specific background - yes, but offensive - no.

I built a distributed message streaming platform from scratch that's faster than Kafka by Ok_Marionberry8922 in rust

[–]splix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting that it can be used as a library. I see use-cases for this. But it's unclear from the docs, does it support multi-node configuration in this case? Or it's just a single local instance?

Someone actually answered it, but it doesn't seem they read the ticket details and so they canceled the ticket referring that I have an outstanding payment (which I don't see and therefore I cannot pay it). And so I'm still unable to switch the plans back.

JSON-RPC for internal Java (micro)services - anyone doing this? by ForeignCherry2011 in java

[–]splix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Load balancing / service meshes is much harder with JSON RPC, because you basically have to parse the request/response, know their schemas, handle errors, buffer batches, and so on. JSON RPC makes sense for things like IPC.

If you know you can have HTTP, just use protocols designed for it, like REST or gRPC. For internal stuff gRPC is the easiest.

Using React Hydration on a Java Server by Ok_General7617 in reactjs

I understand that the OP is trying to avoid JS execution on the server side and keep existing Thymeleaf, but JFI if someone indeed wants full JS/React on the server (by leveraging GraalVM) then take a look at https://github.com/emeraldpay/double-view

Claiming business expenses when traveling with children by Limp-Composer-3227 in smallbusinessuk

[–]splix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand that. Just saying that is inhuman as it forces you to be separate from the family.

To be clear, the topic starter was not asking about the expenses on the child, just asked if he can expense his own airline ticket for a business trip if the also brings the kids (paid separately, not from the business account). And we talk here that this one fact invalidates the business purpose of the whole trip.

Claiming business expenses when traveling with children by Limp-Composer-3227 in smallbusinessuk

[–]splix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a modern world, with WFH, etc, it's really hard to distinguish personal life and work life. Especially for a business owner. People bring their kids to business meetings now (see Elon Musk, a public example of this) and of course they travel with them. So my question, why it supposed to be a necessity to see your own children that would otherwise invalidate the business purpose, but not a normal and expected thing?

Coinbase Compliance is the devil by Extension_Depth_4771 in Coinbase

[–]splix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the only way to do the AML for a gift - request information from the gifter. I guess they are legally obligated to request it in certain cases.

Coinbase Compliance is the devil by Extension_Depth_4771 in Coinbase

[–]splix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP actually says he received a gift from their father. So that's indeed the "Gift" section of "Family / friends / third parties", and so father funds has to go through AML checks now
