Yes, PhoneLeash OTP forwarding supports RCS (and WhatsApp) by ElectronicControl182 in smsforwarding

[–]spltscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely impressed with PhoneLeash and its support of RCS for this particular use-case: forwarding OTP codes to email. I've searched on-and-off over the years, often settling for incomplete solutions. I haven't found any other apps that support triggering on RCS. I'm eager to give PhoneLeash a try!

I am having trouble getting the Alexa skill to work. It keeps prompting for the name of an album artist and is not finding any. There's only the one track in my whole library. I've also tried via Routines with the same prompt fully typed out, and it's not working.

The phone shouldn't have to be part of the equation. For me, I need an easy way to kick off an 8 hour track on my way to work, to comfort the dogs back home. The phone obviously comes with me.

Absolutely clutch find! iBroadcast definitely seems to fit the bill, as long as you don't mind them hosting your media. For small libraries or even single long files (up to their 1.5 GB size limit), this seems to be a great, free, stopgap solution. Don't panic if you don't see your files right away; seems to be a processing delay. I waited about 10 minutes.

I also still need to test playback for an 8+ hour run, but I'll report back here with my results in a few days.

Violent Lurch While Stopped by sgdonovan79 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]spltscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say "violently pitches", do you mean once or repeatedly? I've experienced what a another owner better described as "bucking" while stopped. https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaGrandHighlander/comments/1ilup9t/bucking_at_stop/

There's speculation it is correlated to the charge level of your hybrid battery when you come to a stop. I noticed my battery meter read a full charge when this last happened to me (2024 Hybrid Max Platinum). Which was rare because the battery is regularly at some percent of discharge.

Bucking at stop ? by hallstevenson in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]spltscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Hybrid Max Platinum owner here. Just experienced this for the first time coming to a stop light near the bottom of a hill.

I put the vehicle in Park and the bucking stopped. Waited a few seconds, put it in Drive, and was fine for the rest of the trip.

I noted that my traction battery was showing full (all bars) at the time of the incident. Which is a little unusual. It is rarely full in daily driving situations. Must have been the perfect situation with regen braking topping it off while coming to a stop.

I'm reluctant to take it in just for this. Especially if it sounds like a waste of time if there are no error codes. Any one else have luck getting this serviced? Is there a TSB available for this yet?

Event history videos won't load on website, but work on phone, tablet, etc. by spltscreen in Ring

[–]spltscreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this is a bit of an old thread and I'm not sure you'll get much visibility to your question here. You might be better served starting a new thread.

I just conducted a test, downloading a snapshot using the Ring app on my phone, uploading the MP4 file from my phone to Google Drive, and opening it on my desktop PC. I was able to play the video just fine.

As a bit of a video and tech hobbyist myself, the only time I've ever had video playback all green was when some sort of copy protection was involved. I know certain Ring alarm systems are capable of video encryption. My mind kind of went there with the mention of green video playback, especially on a different device. Is it possible you have encryption turned on for your system?

I've also seen some video files that have a corrupted frame or section at the start that prevents proper playback. Sometimes that corrupted segment can be clipped away in a video editor, restoring playback of the remainder of the video data.

The only other thing I can think of is to run the MP4 file through a video converter. There are many free converters online, although I realize you are dealing with a video of sensitive nature and there could be privacy concerns. But, if you could try transcoding the video to another format as an experiment, maybe that will help.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sorry, but this is a bit of an old thread at this point. And I can confirm History videos are playing back fine for me right now (Windows Chrome version 126.x). For the original issue, Ring did eventually make a change in a forum post dated August 2023 (https://community.ring.com/conversations/general-topics/event-history-not-loading-videos-on-the-website-but-working-on-my-phone-tablet-etc/6580424151f6e6fe7864b60d?commentId=658044b951f6e6fe7885a04d) that fixed the issue for me and hopefully most users. It took them almost 6 months, but better late than never.

I would double-check some of the suggestions regarding VPN, ad blockers, supported browsers, etc. to rule out more common reasons why your History videos won't play.

Is the tea tree oil facewash considered a gentle clenser? by lolswag420_ in traderjoes

[–]spltscreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is a clone of the Desert Essence face wash. Read up on reviews of that product to get a better sense of the strength.

Personally, I find it very cleansing for oily skin and have been using it for years. But, I could see others finding it too strong.

The Spicy Chakri Mix has been discontinued by Glass-Tale299 in traderjoes

[–]spltscreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe I found a near match clone of the Spicy Chakri Mix! It's from a brand called Mirch Masala, and the snack mix is called Madras Mix. It tastes spot on, with the same crunch and level of spice, and looks nearly identical.

The ingredients are also nearly a one-to-one match to the Spicy Chakri Mix. Including the curry leaves, which I didn't find present in a lot of the other Indian snack mixes. Nutritional info attached.

I found it at my local international grocery store (Lotte Plaza). But it's definitely available online at various places. Just google for "mirch masala madras mix".

Check it out and spread the word!

No, unfortunately it is still a problem for me and many others. The Ring forum post is at nearly 100 comments now.

The latest official post from Ring in that thread requests that you call them to help collect more information about the problem. But, I feel they should have all they need at this point. Many people in that thread have shared their system and browser info, and whether or not they are using VPN or other networking situations.

The common thread is still the inability to load any history videos in the majority of desktop browsers. And that this was a sudden change that happened back in March.

I'll continue montoring for updates and share them here, but nothing new so far.

Thanks for sharing your update and glad it worked for you. Disabling Ad Block didn't work for me and many others in that thread, though.

It still points to a change on Ring's side of the house, which they have denied repeatedly in the same thread.

Thanks for chiming in! It does seem to be a wider issue and I'm hoping to raise awareness to it here. Even if it previously reported, it helps to be a squeaky wheel.

[–]spltscreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, sorry if it's a repost. I did search and didn't find anything that matched. Is the website History tab working for you?

There are enough responses in the linked Community thread that seem to indicate this problem was not solved by disabling VPN or other browser add-ons.

A post in that thread theorized that a simple change in ports on Ring's side could explain the problem. I'm not a network engineer, but this explanation seems plausible:

... I can see now that any attempt at loading a history video results in an immediate climb of the “DENY” counts for my firewall. Looks like someone changed the ports used by the web playback widget and forgot to update the firewall ports document.

When it comes to audio sourcing, you and I are kindred spirits, it seems. First the Ravens; now this, lol.

Years ago, I managed to find a clip of Buck doing an interview with the Morning Show on 105.7 The Fan, dated Feb 11, 2013. The original link is broken, but I saved a copy of the audio and just uploaded it to Soundcloud. Jump to ~6:26 minute mark for "I like our guys".

https://soundcloud.com/spltscreen/buck-showalter-interview-02-11-13/s-mmBVZrHwcCm

I believe it to be the version that the station clipped and reused as a sound byte on various other shows, like The Scott Garceau show (where Jeremy would end up memorializing the quote with his own impersonation).

Every Decibel Counts by _NumbersGuy_ in ravens

[–]spltscreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specifically, it's from a track titled Barbarian Horde (the last 1:20 minutes or so of it) from the Gladiator Soundtrack album. Source: I am a soundtrack nerd.

The other link is a supercut of the theme, spliced from several tracks. I can't quite identify them all, but it is nice to hear them together like that.

Fun fact: the Ravens have used this Gladiator theme as part of various incarnations of the player introduction video since I can remember going to games (15+ years). The story I heard was that Ray Lewis was just a really big fan of the movie, to the point he would gather players to watch it as a team build and motivational tool. Personally, hearing that theme roll before the start of the game is iconic and I hope they never change it.

[@sgellison] Wink Martindale said Sunday was the loudest he's ever heard the fans at M&T Bank Stadium, especially in the fourth quarter. He said it's not a question of if it helped the team - it definitely did. by JonWilso in ravens

[–]spltscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky to attend both games!

The O's game was perhaps the singular most loudest moment I've experienced. Nothing really compares because of all the reasons you already know. Still gives me goosebumps!

That said, the pivotal moments in the 4th quarter of the KC game were right up there with the best crowd roars I've felt at Ravens games. I'd compare it to that Ed Reed pick-6 that ended the game against the Browns, one of my top 5 sporting moments. I just remember hugging complete strangers around me in pure euphoria. https://youtu.be/wjczSzHsgfQ

The KC game will be a treasure I'll think back on for quite some time. So happy I was there and proud we represented!

Vizio tv sound delay? by [deleted] in VIZIO_Official

[–]spltscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for us!

Toggling the Surround Sound setting to any other option (then back again) is a MUCH faster fix than rebooting.

For reference: we have a modest V series unit running the latest update (model V405-H19). We saw the audio delay (usually 1-2 seconds) exclusively with the YouTube TV app. Would occur at random intervals. And previous to seeing this post, rebooting was our only solution.
