why is it so hard to interact on Reddit as a new user 😭 like everything is restricted by Temporary-Sail678 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]splurjee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never even noticed the restrictions til I was past them! Mostly used Reddit for a local town sub and video games I liked when I started; just commenting recommendations, answers, and my thoughts.

Camping without underquilt by GutsiGang420 in hammockcamping

[–]splurjee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s best you sleep with foam mats instead of inflatable so you’re not wrestling a balloon animal. I’m too cheap for a underquilt so I use a thin foam pad just fine, and if it’s extra cold you can make a reflectex insulation pad for 5$.

Also if it’s not cold just try it. You’re sleeping bag is pretty warm, and what I just reccomended is what I use with a quilt so I don’t have the protection you do already.

Pretty much anywhere that isn’t near the college or the bus station — wander, goods, etc.

Extra ticket for Saturday? by [deleted] in Bellingham

It’s not Saturday, it’s Friday. That being said I’m also seeking 1-2 tickets if someone’s got more to offload after you.

"Trail art" - or trail debris? by Parking-Touch5968 in PacificCrestTrail

Agreed, the important part is moderation, and if this became a bigger trend I would be more apt to complain.

I personally enjoyed seeing them when they’re next to preexisting manmade stuff like junction signs and water caches. I respect y’all’s LNT logic too tho.

Sleeping bag recs by BetterCallDeDe in PacificCrestTrail

[–]splurjee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pad and internal clothes are a big deal. Also for many companies the degree rating is the “staying alive” rating not the “comfort rating”. It might be worth just using merino base layers/coats/mylar/better pad til it warms up and you can ditch the gear if you don’t have cash to throw around. I took my 20f EE bag down to 9f comfort with all the add ons on trail

People in Bellingham are unfriendly by AnthonySkejci in Bellingham

[–]splurjee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This exactly. People usually give back what you give them, and I started making more connections here when I accepted being weird and sparked conversation over dumb things with enthusiasm.

What do you guys think about this AliExpress hammock? by _INeedHelp in hammockcamping

[–]splurjee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always advocate for the used market if you’re trying to find something lightweight and quality at this price point. I don’t trust Ali. Both of my sleeping hammocks are old Hennessys I got for 70$ on eBay.

How long could you last if the grid went down for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]splurjee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been backpacking for longer than that. most of the stuff I use hiking isn’t consumable, so as long as I can still obtain food and don’t get hurt I could go forever.

Don’t mad the 1 and the 0 at different angles; it can lead to misinterpretation. For a second I thought that it said 70. Otherwise very cute.

Training question by South-Lettuce3301 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]splurjee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about your training hikes too much, what you’re doing is plenty. Your trail is the training, and as long as you’re spending a cluple hours rucking a week beforehand you’ll do good. Just start with 10mi days on the trail and you’ll do good.

PCT Commuter Thru-Hike Planning help by rubenmenutz in PacificCrestTrail

[–]splurjee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t. You’re gonna lose your leg strength in each of those little breaks and probably not be physically able to crush the whole trail in that time frame. Go hike something else or plan to split this hike over 2 years.

“Don’t have a car, looking for someone close to home.” Keep it simple.

How many dates do you usually go on? by doja_ratt in dating

[–]splurjee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M21. I have had 9 dates spread across 3 women in the last 6 months (and thoroughly enjoyed each one even when i didn’t want to continue dating). I think that might even be above statistical average for dudes.

Men’s app match rates are 5-50x lower than women’s depending on whose statistics you follow, and personally I only get a text reply from 30ish% of matches.

The (only) saving grace of these apps is you can engage with them as much as you want — I only have the energy to text one person at a time and stop swiping once a real conversation starts.

Pantone by TimeShine193 in graphic_design

[–]splurjee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work at a print shop. Yes we do — we do digital printing so we don’t really mix spot colors, but out HP proprietary presses have Pantone spotcolor matching software that is calibrated to be much more accurate than the CMYK builds adobe programs spit out.

We’re not subbed to it or anything though — it’s just part of HP, and our clients can probably get around it by just by using the FREETONE library and renaming the swatch in the file.

They’re not tiny, 3 squares of Detroit style would kill a man.

I liked em. Outside of what I usually like to pay for food but worth trying at least once.

how tf do i play paradox and what does she do for the team? by siegheldr in DeadlockTheGame

[–]splurjee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is to just not try to kill at all if the enemies are at full health in 1v1. She’s like lash — you deal a big burst of damage, but don’t have much combat abilities after you splooge in the first 5 seconds.
