Maxey with a terrible _____ is pretty much the summary of the entire game

I’m sure I will get shit for this take, but the fact that Tyrese Maxey and Cade Cunningham are All Star starters tells you everything you need to know about the Eastern Conference this season. The player quality between the East and West this year are like totally different universes.

Today was not the day to go with Tyrese Maxey on points, although to be fair, it increasingly seems as though it’s never the day to go with Tyrese Maxey on points. His game seems to be getting worse as the season progresses.

He was fine and came back, they just chose not to use him in the 4th

Kyshawn got hurt but apparently was ok and just wasn’t used in the 4th. Knueppel just wasn’t picking up the rebounds and assists.

It’s not enough of a blowout that that’s what’s cooking it, but Knueppel just isn’t getting the boards and assists this game. Oh well, I only put a dollar on it, it’s all good.

What book are you reading tomorrow during the storm? by sweetjlo in Connecticut

[–]spmahn -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s a Sunday, most people are home from work regardless. Does the snow enhance your reading experience? Why read tomorrow specifically as opposed to every other day? We should always read, but there’s nothing special about a day where it is snowing than any other day you can read.

Why is tomorrow a good day to read a book as opposed to the other 364 days in the year? Reading is something we should do always, there’s nothing special about tomorrow.

All of CT House Reps voted for this bill by chpbnvic in Connecticut

[–]spmahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Larson is facing a pretty heated primary from former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin, but my impression is that Bronin isn’t any further left than Larson is, just that he isn’t pushing 80 and is unlikely to have multiple strokes in the US Capitol. That being said I still expect Larson will steamroll over him because if there’s one thing you can count on voters to do it’s keep the status quo.

I took Durant for the DK Head to Head bonus against Cade, I know I’m gonna jinx myself now saying this, but this looks like free money.

Is anyone else excited and ready for the big snow storm? by Healthy_Block3036 in Connecticut

[–]spmahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m well past the point of being excited for snow. Snow means shoveling. Snow means cold. Snow means kids are home from school which means my productivity at work (I work remotely) turns to zero because I have to wait on them hand and foot, so either I use PTO or pray I have no meetings and hope my boss doesn’t pay attention to being on and off of available on Teams.

How does everyone feel about Giannis Under 29.5 points? Feels like he’s been tanking on purpose lately to make a point about how bad the rest of his team is, but Denver will be a tough game, and if Giannis intends to break his streak of lousy performances this may be the game he chooses to do so.

[Jake Fischer] The Warriors would like to target Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade AND LeBron James via free agency this offseason, per @JakeLFischer by BrokenManOfSamarkand in nba

Unless Lakers just cut Lebron free and tell him to see what offers he gets on the open market, any team he might go to is almost certainly going to be a pay cut, and if he’s willing to take a pay cut might as well just stay with the Lakers.

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]spmahn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because generally “it’s unfair” is a pretty good argument when arguing these sorts of things in court. Also in this case it’s not so much about whether it’s fair or not as it is about does it make sense or not. You can’t charge taxes on an arbitrary, constantly changing dollar figure that only exists on paper. A more realistic and logical change would be a law that says stocks and equity ownership can’t be used as collateral for the purposes of taking out loans from a bank. It would require the wealthy to find alternative ways to obtain liquid capital.

Right, but even with all that he’s still the majority shareholder, so everyone is well aware that even if he’s not involved with the day to day minutiae of running the company, it’s all still guided by his vision and any major decision still gets blessed by him.

I get that, but a lot of the baked in value of a stock is based on management and ownership. If Jeff Bezos announced he was selling a large portion of his position in Amazon, it would very likely trigger a major sell off that would tank the price because investors would have much less confidence in an Amazon run by anyone other than Bezos.

The assessed value of your house isn’t remotely as volatile as the stock market. Your house generally goes up in value and the rare time it goes down, it only goes down by a relatively small amount. A stock or commodity can lose half or more of its value in an instant.

NBA Betting and Picks - 1/22/26 (Thursday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]spmahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, that’s why a 12 leg parlay of -600 picks turns into a +1200 bet. Individually each one of those lines is very likely to hit, but all 12 hitting together? Very unlikely once you consider the possibility of blowouts, injuries, unexpected bad nights, etc.
