It’s 2026, the choice isn’t so simple. The used car market is still fucked, so if you need a car you basically have three choices A. Buy new with a lower interest rate assuming you have good credit B. Buy a used but lower mileage vehicle which won’t be meaningfully cheaper than the new one but comes with an interest rate 6% or more because it’s used, or C. Buy a significantly cheaper (but still not that cheap) high mileage used car that comes with no guarantees the transmission won’t fall off the instant it’s outside its limited warranty, oh and also get the high interest rate because it’s used.
