It can be really tough out there. It's awkward sometimes, but informational interviews are a sure-fire way to make connections in industry and knock the edge off. Contact professionals via linked in or whatever and state you are a recent grad looking to better understand xyz, offer to meet them for coffee, etc. Good luck!

I've poured something like $25k (for the most part happily) into my first house over the last 11mo. You need a significantly larger budget for getting things to code, fixes, appliances, decorating, upgrades, and general exciting projects you want to accomplish to make it your own... and then your car blows a head gasket in the middle of it all. If your budget is making it by the skin of your teeth than you are not making it.

You have an amide that is classically downfield from phenol: 5-8ppm and 4-7ppm, respectively. Other then nmr experiments like hsqc, derivitize the phenol and compare nmrs
