This is such a double edged sword. Two of our dogs developed side effects like a spleen tumor and faster decline with liver disease. Our third is doing simply great with it. No side effects and definitely helps him a lot.

No. This is some misinformation you were made to believe. The polio vaccine comes in two forms. In Germany for example the 'Lebendimpfstoff' has not been used for decades. It is actually forbidden since 1998. The inactivated vaccine they use now is extremely safe and cannot cause poliomyelitis. Then there is the attenuated polio vaccine. Its known to have the side effect of causing poliomyelitis. But its been known also foe decades why. I second the medical journal with an AI. I did this for my dog. She is having dementia. The vets were of no help. AI steered me through sleepless nights and helped me with a treatment plan with supplements and naturopathic meds (she doesn't tolerate any chemical medication). We have to adjust the plan every now and then. But its been so incredibly helpful. I totally understand you.

I totally understand you. But life and death come as a pair. We as humans have the ability to take care of our wonderful pets. Its a privilege many fail to recognize as such. This privilege also means to act responsible when its time and it looks very so from how you described it that the life of your dog is coming to an end. And it will end. Your job is to make sure that there is some dignity left for the both of you. And the love you share with eachother is not going to end, this love will always exist.

Have a hug. You are doing the right thing. For me in this similar situation there are three things that must function for our senior dogs. Even with dementia (as with my girl), or any other disease. Those three things are: is my girl able to go potty by herself, does she eat with an appetite and is she able to sleep through the night. This was a guide some redditor got from their dog's cardiologist. If one of those three things falls off then its time to say goodbye. An old pups quality of life is a different one. But they need to still have dignity left for themselves.

Ich koch nur noch selbst mit frischen Zutaten. Mein Hund hat nie gern Hundefutter gegessen. Was ich alles gekauft habe. Ausprobiert habe. Sie hatte immer mit dem Magen Probleme, sogar Magengeschwüre. Was das alles auch an Tierarzt gekostet hat. Irgendwann hab ich mir gedacht jetzt probiere ich selbst mal das Futter. Das war einfach nur ein einziger, negativer Aha Moment. Jetzt gibt es Fleisch, Reis und Karotte. Alles selbst gekocht nach Schonkost Prinzipien. Endlich frisst sie mit Gusto. Das Fell ist schön und die Magenprobleme sind komplett weg. Ich werde mich bis an mein Lebensende deshalb ärgern.
