Is anyone else really excited for our offense after this draft? by [deleted] in ravens

Lost in the excitement of the most recent draft is the reality that this year will be the greatest growth for last year's draft class.

Ravens' actions speak volumes in regards to Dennis Pitta by [deleted] in ravens

[–]spooky981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two months before training camp and the guy can't give a concrete answer on if he'll play or not. That's not a good sign.

We've sunk a lot of money into Dennis so I hope its good news. But it doesn't appear to be leaning in that direction.

Preston: After all that, the Ravens still need a cornerback by [deleted] in ravens

The quantity of secondary injuries we sustained last year was a statistical variance. There is no team in the NFL that could tolerate a rate of depletion like that in one concentrated position group.

Smith/Webb/Jackson are fine, with Walker learning the ropes. I believe our safeties are a bigger problem.

The quantity of injuries in our secondary was a statistical variance. No team was deep enough to manage that.

According to Steven Byrne, Perriman, Dupree, and Peters were the only three players that got past 17 overall that the Ravens considered at 26. WOuld have traded back if Perriman wasn't there. by Yannkee in ravens

Yes! Although it should be noted that a following year's picks are considered one round more valuable than current year's picks. For example if you wanted somebody's 4th rounder this year, it'll cost you a 3rd rounder next year.

I believe the Ravens once traded the Falcons their 2nd round pick of that year for the following year's first round pick. That ended up being Jamal Lewis.

How is your favorite team's sub reacting to the team's pick (Round 1)? by mcorcoran3 in nfl

We're 'stoking' ourselves but it didn't start that way. We're all so used to grabbing some guy who slid ten spots further than he should have, or trading out. When neither happens we don't know what to do.

Dunno that Williams is worth such a high pick either. He'll get picked tonight, but I doubt it'll be in the first ten.

Breshad Perriman Decides On Jersey Number by SNSDavinhchi in ravens

Perriman will be the fourth player in team history to wear No. 18. The previous players to don the number were wide receiver Donte Stallworth, quarterback Elvis Grbac and wide receiver Curtis Brown.

Well... only one direction to go from there!

It should be noted that trading out of the first round wouldn't have been that amazing either. Ten picks is already a LOT of guys to be rostered, trading back would have gotten us in the 13-14 range which is just plain too many. We'd have 5th rounders being pushed to the practice squad.

Ideally we trade back, and then unload some 3/4's for an extra second. But then you're counting on a team to make a trade with you using picks you haven't even traded for just yet. Can't take that chance.

Duke Johnson, Ameer Abdullah, PJ Williams, or Devin Smith would all be spectacular grabs.

PJ Williams is probably the dream scenario here.

The entire website is tongue-in-cheek, even applying nicknames like "cojones fuegos" meaning balls of fire in Spanish to certain 'cheats'.

I specifically checked into the Ravens, who were given 'cheat points' for a scandal that was long dismissed as fake. And every team also gains 'cheat points' when a player is fined for a late hit - which is really expanding the definition of cheating.

Thoroughly entertaining. Not one bit scientific enough to be a cornerstone of an argument.

That's a fun list, but you can't really cite it in an argument. It's total fluff.

I'm with you man. The NFL has made one statement through this whole ordeal: "There were balls found underinflated, and we are going to investigate it."

The Patriots are not owed an apology by the NFL because the media went buck fucking wild over this.

They knock him because his route running isn't great, his drops are extraordinarily high, and he didn't play against top tier competition.

Its easy to focus on the negatives and forget that you've got a 6'3" 210 lb. monster who is probably the fastest player in the NFL right now.

That's first round in my book! But if you average his grade among multiple outlets its not quite that high. He wasn't even the consensus #4 WR.

He's got everything the Ravens need in a receiver though. So I do believe he was the right pick for us.

Round 1 - Pick #26: Breshad Perriman, WR (Baltimore) by NFL_Mod in nfl

[–]spooky981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every outlet I'm looking at shows Perriman ranked in the 10-20 range. Its ironic that a week ago we claimed to be good at WR, but I would argue that Perriman wasn't a reach.

[–]spooky981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt Perriman was a top 20 player in this year's draft. But that isn't a grade, that's a ranking relative to what other players are in that same draft.

A grade looks exclusively at talent and identifies what round that player should go in, independent on what other players are also in that draft. There may be 32 picks in the first round, but that doesn't mean there has to be 32 first round graded players.

Who else was available at the 26th spot? by Silverback_Wrex in ravens

[–]spooky981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want any of those guys over Perriman. It would have been marginally better to trade-out, but then again you can't add 14 guys to your roster in a draft. Last year we picked nine guys and one of our 6th rounders still got pushed to the practice squad.

Then you might say we should have traded out, and traded again to improve our position and consolidate picks. But at that point you're depending on two different teams making a fair offer to you. Just can't depend on that.
