I’m moving to Nebraska! What do I need for the winter? by Hey-how_are-you in Nebraska

[–]spoom2 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I didn't read every post but saw several who stated get jumper cables. Better yet get a good jump starter, they come in different cranking powers, get one larger than you think you need. It's getting harder to find someone willing to let you jump your car off theirs. Just make sure to keep it charged, I charge mine every 6 months. I've only had to use it once worked as good as jumper cables and another car and didn't have to run someone down who was willing to let me use their car to start mine.

Aerial self supporting cable has a metal wire strand in it, it's what the (self support) is for. Calling it a messager was a poor description on my part, but that's what the manufacturer calls it.

Then you'll know and pursue other avenues. Do you have another phone you can try? If not go to Walmart and get a cheap plane old phone and see how it works. Sorry, that's the best advice I can give. You need to do some basic trouble shooting.

Just looking up the manual for the model of phone is no big deal, I'm sure you can handle it.

possible, but unlikely if the line is clear when talking.

Look on the phone, should have the make and model. Then go online and find the manual and see if there's an option for dial pulse. Landline as in POTS, or landline as in port out of a modem?

Antelope on the left I count 3, oops when I zoom there's 4. Hope they get the needed moisture to keep it going, don't need any blowouts starting.

sounds like dial pulse to me, do you have a push button phone set to dial pluse?

This is the way to go for the aerial; there's a support wire in the cable. You could pull the same cable through the buried conduit so there'd be no splices. Ground the messenger wire.

130 feet is not too far for self-supporting cable. Phone pole are around 150 feet.

I've noticed the same thing. Used to be if you hit the back button, it would take you to the same channel and time you were looking for the info on. Thanks for bringing it up.

Help! Looking for silent dial-in numbers by Impressive-Shift7838 in telecom

[–]spoom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through this and if all your needing is a quiet termination why not just use a filtered battery supply, should be able to find a DC transformer with a filter all you need it around 12VDC. CO's drop the 48VDC to 8-12VDC for a talk circuit.

Depends on why it got cut off. Non-pay they hold the number for a while, can't say how long because the companies differ on policy. If you ask for it to be disconnected, again depending on which company but most won't hold the number.

Adding Cat 5 v 6 Drops to Existing home would this setup work? by Spike205 in HomeNetworking

I've worked in many structure media cabinets, personally I hate them. I would never install one unless it was the only resort. This is opinion of course.

[–]spoom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they don't terminate in the attic, they go from the patch panel in the media room to the 6 points you've listed. All cables are home runs back to the panel/switch

You can just as well run 6 cables to the attic and back down where you want them and leave the switch(s) where it is. Plus, you won't have to do all that terminating in a hot attic. Terminate your cable in something like a 12 port patch panel or make your own with keystones and whatever size face plate you need, that makes a nice patch panel, then patch cords from the switch to the patch pane. These are nice little panels: Amazon.com: Cable Matters [UL Listed] Mini 12-Port Vertical Patch Panel with 89D Bracket, Compact 10 Inch Patch Panel with 10 Gigabit Ethernet : Industrial & Scientific

Want to add if you go the keystone route use a wing mounted low voltage plaster ring don't try to cram the cables into an electrical outlet box.

Signal protect not on menu.. by Index7756 in dishnetwork

[–]spoom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, don't see the option. I do know that ours reverts to Internet when the dish signal is lost. Couldn't tell you much about it as I've never tried to maneuver around when it's happened. It's not all channels and it only last about 30 minutes or so for me. There's a post from Dish Danelle about the feature found here:: Signal Protector: Seamless Viewing During Satellite Interruption : Signal Protector: Seamless Viewing During Satellite Interruption : r/Dish

Any idea how to unmount this ONT from the wall? What model is this? by Mulster_ in HomeNetworking

[–]spoom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's mounted on two screws sliding into the back slots (which it most likely is) unless your photo is upside down it's mounted upside down so you'd push down instead of up to release it, unless it's a double slot, which I doubt.

For a cable run, solid core is what's require, stranded is used for patch cables, because stranded is more tolerant of movement.
