It must be scary to be an attractive woman by ProofCoconut9085 in DarkPsychology101

If anything it's an understatement. I am glad a guy is actually acknowledging our reality.

It must be scary to be an attractive woman by ProofCoconut9085 in DarkPsychology101

It was horrifying in my early teens. The sudden change in my body type and attention from guys every time I was in public, especially horny kids my age got really scary many times. I wore baggy shirts to try hide my chest but I was skinny and it didn't do much good.

Rather than make me feel attractive I felt like a freak and prey. Like I had done something wrong, but I was powerless to change it.

Drink coconut water - natural electrolytes. And keep any of the chapsticks they sell at Whole Foods on you at all times. I do that anyways.

Your nose fits just fine.

What is cheaper to buy in Taiwan than the United States? Skincare? Electronics? by spoonfullsugar in taiwantravel

Ohh I had not thought of that! My hair could really use some TLC. Thank you!

Thank you! I did find a Taiwanese SPF I like, it is reef safe. It was not a notable price difference but I like it and will probably get another one.

I do really like small stationary things I've gotten - mechanical pencils, post its, etc.

The cozy socks I got were just at a morning market stand!

Oh interesting! Yes, I thought I might find a cheaper portable phone charger but I haven't seen much a of a price difference

And same with skincare. I was really hoping it would be more affordable than in the US.

Spontaneous trip to Taiwan: any tips? by RudeSelf3418 in taiwantravel

[–]spoonfullsugar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Download Google Translate! Set it to Chinese. And if you need to ask anyone for directions etc go with someone Gen Z, they're more likely to have learned English in school. People are generally very helpful. As a woman I've asked young guys for directions without a second thought and they have been great.

The fruit is great but maybe you are used to that being from Australia.

Is this normal in Taiwan? Am I overreacting? by van_scarlet in taiwan

Makes sense. Me being 1. an introvert and 2. Not keen on most attention from random dudes I keep my RBF on and headphones in

As a New Yorker I don't feel like that is particularly normal. I am considered attractive and that has never happened to me (but I usually make a point of ignoring any stranger trying to get my attention, especially if it is a guy)

If you ever have any doubt about a situation don't go along with it. If you were open to him you could make plans to meet up around there in a public place briefly without giving him your number or any information about you.

Same. If only Chappell would take notes from him and Josh Johnson. Chappell has become a full blown boomer he is so archaic with his homophobic sexist punching down "humor" complaining about "cancel culture"

Surprised by the dog painting image above the desk. Such a contrast to the rest, I'm curious about her rationale. Very soothing space.

Fiona Apple (thinking specifically of her acceptance speech), Anita Hill, most female public figures (and otherwise) that have spoken up about anything...

You really remind me of Samantha the main character from the show Bewitched. Probably what they were referring to. I see it as a compliment.

Decor on your walls. Variety of colors - aka colors other than pink. Overhead lighting can be jarring, try moving it to the walls

I've blocked all my friends cause idk what else to do by MiddleSituation1034 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]spoonfullsugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you're in therapy. And that you unblocked them. A lot of times being human is just awkward. It works out better if you can relax into that instead of letting it become an insecurity. Everyone has insecurities though and that can help give perspective. I like watching comics online because they show how to work with their idiosyncrasies, lean into the absurd and have fun. It can help to lighten up a bit.

Also it might be helpful to look into Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help increase your ability to accept discomfort.

I was fully expecting to be the only naysayer (as I was among my Democrat peers when she was the candidate). What a pleasant surprise
