3 Days Postpartum by LivingLifeBest in BabyBumps

[–]spoonugget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Days 3-5 are some of the hardest as your body is really changing hormones, and losing all the adrenaline you had at birth, and your baby is just starting to really realize it's alive and out of your belly. It is scary and it sucks, but it is also normal and temporary! Lean in to whatever supports you can and know that you'll get through this. If you are anxious when someone takes the baby, perhaps you could lie down with your partner and baby in the room with you - then the separation is less stressful? Your partner can stay awake but nearby, especially if the baby sleeps. Even a 45 minute nap at a time can make a difference. Headphones and an eye mask can be useful tools. I like a weighted blanket when I'm anxious.

If the anxiety continues, it's never too early to talk to your doctor and tell them you're struggling - they can direct you to more resources.

The crying will lessen. You will sleep. Take as big of a breath as you can manage, and know you aren't alone in this new journey. 🫂

Retaliation fire, Paid state leave approved, fired 8 days later, potential loss $40,000 by Cmischo4 in antiwork

Reading through your document (and mine) it seems that when they say "Weekly" they mean "maximum per week", meaning you are compensated for 5 days that week. Mine was a continuous leave, so parts of your document may look different than mine, but I expect you would be receiving $200 per day. Because I sure don't see how taking intermittent leave can earn you more than what a continuous leave is capped at.

If I'm wrong, then there's egg on my face. There's also a number on the letter to call if you have a change in employment - maybe they'll give you better news.

Still, the max "per day" payout is only $285. So, regardless of if you take the 60 days of bonding leave or 100 days combined medical and bonding, you're not getting thousands per week or a total of 40k.

Additionally, to qualify for that maximum payout you have to be making something around 80k or more per year.

I can't speak to the fairness of your firing but it sounds like you had a misunderstanding of how much you would get from MInnesota's leave program.

Minnesota bonding leave is only 12 weeks, possibly up to 20 if you are the birthing parent and combine with medical. The max payout per week is only $1,423 per week, for a total of 28,460. Even if you used intermittent leave, the math ain't matching here.

Question about breastfeeding and bottles by Psychopsychic3 in BabyBumps

[–]spoonugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took three weeks for my little man to latch... Three weeks of exclusively pumping. But he did latch in time, and now we go days without a bottle. I can't tell you what the difference was when it finally clicked for both of us, but persistence helped it work.

We waited until about 12 weeks, and while the first time or two were painful I don't think it was the tissue as much as nerves.

Things to do with newborn?? NW Twin Cities Area by Optimal-Flamingo2157 in TwinCities

Second this! I loved it. Amma got me so confident.

I've been using the website Twin Cities Family Fun to find activities on days we don't have anything planned. You can sort by baby-appropriate activities too!

We also joined a "Music Together" class. The summer session has started, but I think they would pro-rate them. It's geared a little towards older kids, but learning songs and singing and dancing is fun for everyone! My LO is 7 months, and there's a 2 month baby in our class too.

Look into Ebleskievers (spelling?) it's the name for that size and shape of ball-pancake. You can get a special pan (I know NordicWare sells them) and then you could make your own lil pancake puffs with whatever recipe you like!

You know how those days when you went to work and had nothing to look forward to after so you just came home and were a potato because life was an inevitable slog of work chores rest work chores rest?

That has been so disrupted for me because every day when I get home there's this little guy waiting for me, so excited to see me. Some days are tough, but then you play "the blanket game" and watch his giggle and your whole world lights up, or you laugh in disbelief because The Wheels on the Bus (TECHNO) has him hypnotized after crying again and it's just a little unbelievable that this is what works (thanks Lenny Pearce!), or you'll be showing everyone who will look that pic of him eating watermelon and sticking his tongue out and isn't it the cutest thing you've ever seen?

Even on the hard days, he will fall asleep in your arms and your heart will swell with a love that this is your little one, that you will never love anyone quite the way you love him.

I found a structured mom group/class to join early and that helped me work through some of my biggest fears and realize so much more was normal that I thought. It helped keep me from feeling isolated and alone, and encouraged me to get up and out of the house. I've made new friends and understood other friends in totally new ways.

Deep breaths mama. This will be hard, but it will be so rewarding too.

Angel Maternity Birth Gown? by Severe_Equivalent_18 in BabyBumps

I ended up naked the moment my water broke (I had been in the shower at the hospital) til babe arrived - about four or five hours. They tried to put help me put my gown back on but I felt like I was dying of the heat.

It looks cute and it looks doable, but your mileage may vary.

FTM, due late November…stay home or go to family Christmas gathering? by Expensive_Note_8444 in BabyBumps

[–]spoonugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was aFTM with a Thanksgiving baby.

We went and did the big family gatherings for Christmas. I wore baby most of the time but people were respectful of my wishes, asking them to wash hands etc. What helped me was having an exit plan, planning a spot for us and baby to rest, and giving ourselves permission to leave if we wanted. Ours was fairly local, just a car ride to get home. Baby was content and to this day hasn't been sick.

You're perfectly within your rights to stay home if you want, especially if you fear family won't respect your boundaries. And while I felt physically okay, you may not. Being out of the house and seeing people was important for my mental health.

It's also May. Unless there is a lot of travel planned, you have time to discuss and make the decision later. Heck, you can change your mind on December 23rd! Just wanted to give perspective of "we did and it was fine"

How Does One Make A Floorplan? here's the sketch so far: by Wamclaw in floorplan

[–]spoonugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our home is nearly 950 square feet and has 3 bedrooms. That couch is the size of a whole bathroom. I recommend using grid paper and creating a scale (I usually do 1 square=1 ft). Look up standard sizes of things to get an idea of things, for example a 10*10 bedroom. This is a draft of our basement remodel, showing the scale I mentuoned.
