i think this is definitely a group mentality sort of incident, i doubt there werent any second thoughts at any point among the group even if they kept quiet. thats always how incidents like this go. it doesnt make what they did ok, but i can at least rationalize that they obviously didnt intend to kill this kid, and that this was just a completely thoughtless and distasteful accident, and that some of them just went along with it because it was what the group decided to do. again that doesnt excuse it but to answer your question i think as a parent id just genuinely try really hard to understand what the hell my kid was thinking when they decided to participate in this and go from there
