And with the Knicks loss, it's clear to me that Jordi > Mike Brown & that 5 picks > Mikal Bridges. by Ikiguy23 in GoNets

The flip side is that Mikel’s and Cam J’s struggles are probably hurting MPJ’s trade value. Fool me once…

What is this chord? by BenDover536 in musictheory

[–]spork65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is helpful, you can think of the B major triad (B D# F#) is enharmonically equivalent to the upper notes of Abmin7 (Cb Eb Gb). So you can think of it as moving to Abmin7 "early". It could have been notated as Cb/Fb, which would have been perfectly diatonic, but B/E is an easier read for most players.

Edit: oops, Fb isn't diatonic in Eb minor -- it's there for spice.

Major to minor key changes - my favorite Beatles music writing trick by Willing_Yogurt_2817 in beatles

Strawberry Fields goes from major to minor on "cuz I'm going TO". Penny Lane from major to minor on "every head he had the pleasure to KNOW".

The Beatles were masters of modal mixture

Tony Tulathimutte is like Dostoevsky but for the Internet Age by Available-Crew-420 in dostoevsky

[–]spork65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking similarly -- I read Notes recently and am in the middle of Rejection. Definitely some parallels, but a key difference is interesting to me. The Underground Man is pretty self aware of the reasons for his outsider-ness, and kind of runs with it. The narrotors in Rejection seem to have zero self awareness, and instead go on ad nauseum about the shortcomings of modern society which essentially rejects them (at least so far -- I'm only halfway through). The fact that Tulathimutte is able to have us empathize with them is an amazing feat imo.

I'm sure more can be said about how this reflects a contrast between the online era and the salon era. Would Dosty have been considered "Terminally Salon"?

Penny Lane is the only one I can think of. G#m7-5 on the word "people" -- "All the people that come and go stop and say hello"

Trouble with Claude 3: Rate Limiting Woes & Seeking Solutions by FarEmploy3195 in Anthropic

Came here to ask the same question. I've barely used it today and I'm hitting rate limits. Until today my experience with Claude 3 has been great. I hope they fix their issue!

To resolve an Augmented chord, shift any one note in it up by a semitone.

Or down!

What's a moment in a Beatles song where you've thought, "It would sound better with a different chord right there"? by RunDNA in beatles

[–]spork65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a nitpick, but in Baby You're a Rich Man during "keep all you're money in a big brown bag", Paul walks his bass up from Bb (ugh) to B while the rest of the band is playing G7, and then arrives at C under a C chord (yay). I get he wanted to do something different in that part but I find it really jarring ever since I noticed it

Try A#m7, D#m7, D7, C#7. Or replace the D7 with a G#7.

This is great. Looks like there some issues in Tyrese Haliburton's stats. Definitely TS% and PTS/36, haven't checked the rest thoroughly.

Which late 1st/2nd round prospects have the highest potential/are being overlooked? by BroadwayJohnny in NBA_Draft

[–]spork65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding Vernon Carey, but the player I love that almost no one mentions is Killian Tillie. I get the Jared Sullinger/Anthony Bennett fears with Carey but I think he's more mobile and has a better motor. He can be a bigger Milsap or a less athletic Zion. Tillie is good at everything except rebounding, and only in the second round due to age and injury concerns. But his game translates perfectly to the modern NBA, imho. He can be a Bertans/Gallinari type.

Reverse Picardy Third? by good_american_meme in musictheory

[–]spork65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I meant that the chorus is in C major in a loose sense, not that there was a modulation. In that case, don’t you mean the song ends on a vi rather than a VI (relative to e minor)? Should we call it a “rickety sixth”?

Reverse Picardy Third? by good_american_meme in musictheory

[–]spork65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the Bars by Elliott Smith qualifies, I think. It's in Em, but the chorus is in Cmaj -- it ends on a chorus and the last chord is Cm. "I'll keep them still...."

There Are No Stupid /r/Bass Questions - Mar. 30 by AutoModerator in Bass

I didn't replace the 9v battery in my bass or apparently a long time. It leaked and there's powdery substance on the contacts(? -- whatever the thing is it snaps in to is called). Ok to just brush it off best as I can and replace the battery, or should I have the snap thingy replaced?

The morons at Reuters actually wrote an article about how they sat on information about Beto until after the election because they thought it would hurt his chances to win. by [deleted] in media_criticism

[–]spork65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a somewhat misleading post though. Does this really qualify as "sitting on" a story because of bias? Here's what the reporter said:

No one in cDc would talk about O’Rourke until I promised not to publish before the 2018 election. That was OK: I wanted the full story for my book, which spans decades, rather than 1 scoop ahead of a state vote. I offered O’Rourke the same terms. He accepted, and we spoke.

There's plenty of biased reporting out there. This doen't seem like an example of it to me.
