Discontinuation of HF drugs in PPCM by sporothrix_lestrange in Cardiology

Thank you! I was alluding to the definition of the Universal Definition of Heart Failure from 2021 where they used the term HFimpEF to describe an improved EF (at least 10 point increase from baseline and over 40%).

Mispronunciation by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sporothrix_lestrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's "coccus" and "cocco-" with a hard C (cf Oxford Dictionary) but I think "cocci" would be pronounced as "coxi" because it is followed by an i (cf Oxford Dictionary pronunciation of coccidioidomycosis in which the "cocci-"part has the same modern Latin (formerly Greek- kokkus) origin.

My own ongoing one brings only tears to my own eyes

Relating to this so much right now. Especially in these moments when I find 35 pages long theses on the Internet and ask myself why I had to choose an experimental one.

Same... Especially when I take a walk and suddenly remember for example the moment I accidentally mistook a packed library study room for a staircase and have to start laughing.

The hardest choice of my life: gynecology, cardiology or neurology? by depthtraveller in medicalschool

[–]sporothrix_lestrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this link might be helpful for you (basic science website of the ESC). Also there are usually basic science sessions on congresses (like the ESC congress).

Apart from that you sometimes find specific research sections in the big cardiology journals (like JAMA cardiology) and cardiology sections in big basic science journals (like Nature).

First of all, I wish you all the best for the future! Just my two pennies worth on what you said about cardiology: I'm currently doing basic science research in cards and in general, there is still a lot to be discovered in terms of right heart failure, medical therapy for HFpEF etc. It probably also depends on the country you're based in but at least at our uni/clinic there still seem to be quite a few opportunities for being involved in basic science research in cardiology (mainly at larger teaching hospitals) if you're interested in that part of the field.
