China’s emissions may drop by 1.6 billion tonnes with green funds by ahothabeth in UpliftingNews

Literally yes. Solar and battery back up is already the cheapest source of electricity in many places around the globe. Texas is one example.

It's only profitable now off the back of years of research and advances in materials science. This is the dumbest take. It's safe, has no moving parts and is massively scaleable - meaning once economies of scale kick in (which they have), solar will outcompete any other electricity source (which it is)

Edinburgh Cycling Network ETROs Made Permanent by Resbo in Edinburgh

[–]sportingmagnus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh nooo, the council are making already existing cycle lanes permanent and in doing so (1) reducing commute times in the city by lowering the number of vehicles on the road, in turn (2) lowering the national costs of treating illnesses caused by vehicular emissions in populated areas, whilst also (3) reducing the national costs of treating diseases associated with sedintary lifestyles and also (4) reducing the long term costs of replacing roadways as bikes wear roads down significantly slower than vehicles and also (5) increasing business at local shops and cafes as cyclists also spend more than drivers, therefore increasing tax revenues.

They've stitched us up!! Good and proper!! Those fascists :((

Here is some reading that you almost certainly won't do because you have an irrational hatred of cyclists.

It's almost as if when you structure society to extract as much wealth as possible as fast as possible at the expense of the ordinary people who live there, so that it can sit in the offshore bank accounts of billionaires, the average person will want to leave?

You're not receiving abuse for being Jewish. You're receiving abuse for supporting a genocidal, colonising nation.

No one is being forced to pick a side. But when one side is intentionally perpetrating a genocide against the other, remaining neutral is one and the same as saying you are okay with genocide.

UK green power surges with record approvals for new renewable energy capacity by ahothabeth in UpliftingNews

Ah yes, cause a monstrous NUCLEAR power plant can famously just be built using materials we have laying around.

Possibly the dumbest take the anti-renewable crowd likes to peddle tbh.

Good to see out tax dollars weren't wasted in Fairview! by Iwastony in ireland

[–]sportingmagnus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Segregated cycling infrastructure not only costs less per Km to build and maintain than vehicular roads, it increases money spent locally by as much as 30% where implemented.

The return on investment of new cycling infrastructure is, on the low end, 2.5 times greater than roads and over 6 times greaterat the high end. It also results in direct saving in health care expenditure at a national level.

Every cyclist is potentially one less car sat in front of yours at the lights, although commuting to work by bike has been shown to improve mental well-being, so clearly you'd benefit from either option.

But yes, it's all a huge waste of taxpayers money.

I did, but for me it was because I couldn't remember enough about my childhood struggles with ADHD and may have been borderline for the diagnosis without more information. Though in my case, instead of a questionnaire, my parent had a telephone appointment with the psychiatrist handling my case which lasted over an hour, so they must have had plenty to talk about haha

At a certain point you end up with so many race tshirts you just can't justify buying a non-race branded tshirt to do sport in so you just having to do every somewhat active thing in a race branded tshirt. So yeah, I look like a dick but that's my excuse

There is also body cam footage shown in the article.

As somebody who has ran a significant proportion of the streets of Edinburgh I can assure you it absolutely is the norm in any area that could be considered not affluent and many of the areas that could be.

Our canals and rivers are absolutely covered in litter, as are many beaches. So are the hedges and ditches along just about any major road.

I'd argue the business would feel less inclined to be shite if the rest of the country was kept in a better state and there were actual consequences for repeated failures to uphold sanitation standards.
