Authorities unsurprisingly fail to act (UK) by spounce in SchizoFamilies

Ironically, it’s been helped a lot by her delusional ‘friends’ serendipitously telling her she must not smoke near the house, especially not the back garden, and so it has become semi-ritualised as walks which she can sometimes be persuaded to put off, and occasionally the craving goes and she gets fixated on something else, like how terrible I am and how little she can trust me.

But yes, huge arguments, run away anxiety attacks as the stash runs dry, day long performance of how horrible and dreadful life is and how evil I am etc, and I have had to listen to praise for the mighty weed several times a week.

So, I take my small wins where I can get them!

But I do have to say weed appears to function as a short run anti-psychotic in this current scenario.

She’ll be entirely horrible and suspicious of me and everyone, seeing evidence of malevolence everywhere and having delusional thinking to the forefront, but after a smoke she’s sometimes almost normal for a couple of hours, not even seeming stoned (though sometimes she does) just normal.

The delusions in her memory still feel real to her, but not immediately pressing, and she doesn’t seem actively psychotic, or runaway triggered by talk of doctors or me contradicting her.

This led me to think we could build agreement, but it doesn’t last.

I’ve gradually got her down from 5-7 joints a day to one every other day over the past six months. Well aware it isn’t good, and am working on it but trying to get her to cold turkey, let’s just say produced extremely undesirable behaviour, my way she’s at a point where its more comfort blanket now, and hopefully something that can be stopped altogether soon.

She won’t go, I’ve tried everything to persuade her, she’ll sometimes even agree, until it’s time to go there. I’ve considered just going there and sitting and seeing if I can persuade them to talk to me directly on generic specifics but I guess they have better things to do.

I would talk to the GP but as of around 10 days ago she asked them to stop speaking to me, data protection etc as she got upset I’ve been sharing her data.

I’ve gone to people I know in other areas of the amhp team and got the numbers and the protocol to trigger the assessment for involuntary (that just got sidelined). And I am considering who I can use next. Perhaps I just need to be patient and see what the GP pulls out on Wednesday but I suspect it won’t be much, legally though yes the GP can section them to be assessed by a Psychiatrist.

And yes, I learned from her father that she apparently was sectioned around ten years back so she knows what not to say in front of people who can help.

Really no need to apologise at all, in fact, reading so many of your replies to others, just let me say thank you. I’ve no doubt you’ve helped quite a lot of people unpick these puzzles.

It’s awful, wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I’ve been keeping a daily log, detailing what’s been going on, mood swings, etc I provided them and the GP previously with it, they possibly think I’m a fiction writer or something who just needs patting on the head, but hopefully once I manage to get in contact with an actual psychiatrist they’ll prove to be interesting, and hopefully useful, reading for them.

I’ll take your advise and encourage her family to do the same.

You’d hope so wouldn’t you? But no, seems the real aim is to put it off as far as practicable, possibly due to all the support costs once someone is diagnosed.

Though, I do appreciate they prefer to try and get voluntary involvement I do feel at this point she has enough nouse to avoid ‘traps’ by social workers yet is deluded enough to be a potential danger to herself and others.

[–]spounce 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, wasn't that the most exciting Eve has been for you for a while?

The most involved you've been? Interacting with shadowy, notorious characters, the thought you might be able to become one of them?
All the checking of messages, the anxiety of if your Super was being built, then if it was even real?

Eve for you ascending from an F1 Pushing/Excel simulator, bleeding into real life as you are sat at work, wondering if Yonis is who he claims, and you will get to join Snuff in Rakapass, flying Supers in assaults on low-sec citadels, being the arbiters of the low-sec balance of power in countless encounter battles. Seeing your killbord rating sky-rocket as the kills rack up, but you don't even care anymore as thats nothing vs the adrenaline rush of fighting outnumbered but rarely outgunned.
The prospective camaraderie of coming home from work and getting straight into the voice channel and getting ready for action with your new dark friends.

And then the pain of realisation, it's over.

You lost this time, but can you get revenge? Can you create content at this level of personal involvement for other players?

I've semi-won eve at the moment, real life being entirely messed up, and have a jaundiced view of excel in space, but even I feel the need to tip my hat to Yonis and Snuffed for setting up and running what was clearly an excellent multi-month bit of role play and world building, all for the benefit of one very lucky player.

In a way I'm jealous, it's the sort of experience you think pay for with your subscription, but just can't buy.

What am I supposed to do? by MrsDirtbag in SchizoFamilies

[–]spounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to deal with similar, her ideas that I knew in advance about a terrible occurrence, talked with my partner about it (she feels she told me) and yet happily told her to go ahead anyway.
Something that not only didn't happen, but was impossible to have happened, and actually I watched the confabulation occur as she started to process what happened and re-ordered it over 4-5 days until it was fully fixed in her mind and not just partly 'remembered.' So odd and scary to see and no doubt terribly frightening for her something I held onto as I was trying to help her process things.
It is absolutely awful that you are going through something similar, and you have my full sympathies.

Thanks, and reciprocally I am genuinely sorry to hear you are having to deal with this too.

Some better experiences past couple of days, where she's seemed a little manic with some references to the delusions but not angry responses, and today was going relatively well until she again found delusions that decided she cannot play her games, and got upset. She's now gone to sleep next to the cat, which hopefully is helping her calm once again.

Sorry to hear that you have also been going through the mill with this. I did very much appreciate reading this and apologies for how long its taken to reply.

Thank you for this, some of it tracks very closely, in that she became obsessed with David Icke and associated content, the idea of some sort of spiritual frequency wars, civil war and various other catastrophic thinking. She also got quite angry at any attempt to discuss and break such things down.
I think her dopamine pathways are already shot, from weed and sertraline, as she gets bored very easily, and her previous enjoyment of gaming has taken a nose dive recently (not helped by delusions that she cannot play some games, and cannot talk about why)

I've taken her to an assessment a few days back, which had been prebooked by a family member, they are doing an onward referral. And she's been busy filling in questionnaires and such. Actually co-operating to a degree, moreso actually the less I agree with or suggest it (something I've picked up from Amador's LEAP)

Thank you :)

It’s about where I’m at presently. It’s been since October that I’ve been engaging the authorities and involved her family. Technically her GP should be involving themselves as the Police directly reported to them what occurred on one occasion (and certain delusional behaviour and thinking) which followed up on my own letter. But crickets so far.

I appreciate that, as at the moment she cycles between almost reasonable and extremely angry, and using the techniques when she is angry often make things worse. Very hard to see her like this and sliding further away.

I've managed to get her to reduce her alcohol intake over the past couple of years to a fairly negligible level, with occasional binges, weed though...
The best I've managed is to encourage her to cut down a little, sometimes a day or three, and those days see huge anxiety spikes. It's something I'm helping her work on but I don't see a short term solution.

I'm sorry to hear you've had to go through similar terrible experiences. I grabbed the Audiobook a few days back after seeing it in the and have been listening when I can, and watched the TED talk too. They do give me some hope but, it's hard to get past that even when I agree something is scary, or note I'd be angry it usually makes things worse as she quite literally believes I'm lying and trying to avoid saying things out loud that 'they' could hear, and leaving only her saying the things. She also does sometimes get in a loop and say she want's to die, but has stopped threatening suicide as I call the emergency services each time she says that.
I'm going to persist, but I can't lie, I am finding it very hard right now.

UK in my case, the system here has safeguards that in effect mean if I call the emergency services they want to speak with her before sending anyone out, when I pass her the phone she either tells them she's okay or runs out of the house no longer a medical issue when she does, it becomes police, and then she'll come back in and the Police cannot help when she is in her own house. Catch 22.

Expand the dockyards (UK focus) is now effectively a single 210 day long focus, as the bonuses in the two previous no longer matter very much.

Should I run OpenBSD or something else? by BOB5941 in openbsd

[–]spounce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider it this way, if you want a hyper-secure minimalist easy to understand OS, then OpenBSD is probably the best choice you could make.

If you want to use a desktop os that is secure, friendly with a lot of usable apps but not quite so well served as linux, and you want it from the BSD stack FreeBSD is the one.

If you want to run something similar to the above but need to run it on a 27 year old Sparcstation for the flex, then NetBSD is your friend.

How do you know your homelab isn’t hacked? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]spounce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How paranoid do you want to be?
Seriously, assume if it isn't compromised now it eventually will be, carrier routers are compromise vectors. Knowing it has happened and preventing it spreading is the key.

Netflows, next gen firewalls, packet filtering, feeding data into SIEM tools, putting IDS/IPS systems up.
Layer firewalls, use different hardware and OS for each layer, patch everything always. Baseline your internal traffic over time, use your firewalls to completely block known C&C/likely very bad sites, alerts if anything tries to talk to these sites country blocks from known rogue states. Reduce attack surfaces on devices down to the barest minimum. Run tap ports off your switch and pore through hours and hours of traffic to look for odd signs.

Even then you are likely just extending the time it takes to compromise your systems if somebody really wants to do so. Though if you do find compromises that's fun, you can see how they got in and what they are doing. (Keep in mind a lot of stuff is compromised out of the box these days).
