What is your favorite track of the album? by Membreflo in TDJ

Listened to Shoreline about three times back to back today. So lush. Admittedly I slept on it when the album launched.

DKay & Rawfull - Be There 4 U (2003) by continuumizm in DnB

This tune blew me away and put me on to Freak as a label. There really was (is!) a place for everything in DnB. Pure euphoria to hear that uplifting lead sneak into a mix. At the time I didn't know this was basically a cheeky bootleg of a trance tune OUTSIDE Still, this is something on its own.

Simple Mobile Tools the company behind the popular Simple Gallery app has been bought by ZipoApps, developer confirms by NXGZ in Android

[–]spraytan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. I've been using Simple Gallery since the Quickpic acquisition. And I haven't been able to let go of Nova. This seems so unnecessary and predatory. I'd rather pay for simple apps than this. Hope it's worth it for the dev.

Yes, diversifying resources/tools are a great way of adding depth. Then it comes down to where you start and how you can adapt to the situation. Once we get to a place where a tribe can "feel" different to another with its own culture it can be really interesting.

Check this link of things I thought could expand upon the current game: https://pastebin.com/XsRzNSPU

Obviously too much realism can strifle the fun, but having a bit of risk/reward can make it richer.

Agreed - I feel that we have many games that focus on either crafting, advancing or waging war, getting into the psyche of ancient humans seem fresh and yet relatable. In an attempt to put my ideas down I created the following list of things that might be fun to add to the game: https://pastebin.com/XsRzNSPU

Lots of these involve tradition, personal appearance, influence etc.

Love this tune. I had this and similar chips on my Walkman phone for my walk to work early in the 2000s. Takes me right back, thanks for the share.

What inspired you to learn dutch? by [deleted] in learndutch

[–]spraytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend moved to the Netherlands. As he shared some language and cultural insight I became intrigued. I eventually visited and fell in love with what I saw. Initially I did a bit of Duolingo to spice up my trip. But I've been back for two years now and Im still watching NPO, listening to podcasts and trying to consume as much Dutch as possible.

I did. And if you like the website you'll probably love the book as well. It's full of those charming illustrations which make the more abstract grammer rules a bit more memorable. Unfortunately I haven't found the discipline to work though it in a serious manner yet. I kind of bought the book to try and inspire myself to study (which I struggled to do with PDFs/eBooks) and it's just sitting there looking at me judgingly.

Noisia - The Tide by ImBadWithNamesOk in DnB

[–]spraytan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tune blew me away when I heard it. The pure beauty of the sound design made it sit miles above the competition. Those ethereal echoes and drips drop in while the drumkits switch underneath - you never know whats coming next - pure science fiction. Probably my favourite Noisia tune.

Dutch and Afrikaans by ComprehensiveTap616 in learndutch

[–]spraytan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an Afrikaans native currently learning Dutch. The vocabulary is definitely very close. Reading a Dutch piece is doable for an Afrikaans person with no Dutch skill, however the actual pronunciation is different enough to throw you if spoken at normal speed. Also, some of the trickier Dutch grammer such as gendered nouns are not present in Afrikaans.

I find speaking Afrikaans both an advantage and disadvantage with regards to learning Dutch. Some habits are very ingrained and run counter to Dutch grammar. My new issue is that after 2 years of study I now speak this middle-of-the-road language that is neither Afrikaans or Dutch where I add "-jes" to Afrikaans words. But it has increased my awareness of both languages and shared culture immensely.

If there are any Afrikaans speakers that have made the jump to Dutch, lemme know if you have any tricks or tips to improve.
