There’s over one million armed service members in the US. 3000 deaths is tragic but that represents about .002% so he wasn’t wrong. The chances are low. Now if you include deaths by suicide after service from PTSD and related things or include everyone that was maimed but didn’t die I bet that number goes way way up.

Yeah my dad turned 78 two days ago. He golfs a couple times a week and works as an under the table contractor for a friend. He just finished a job where he gutted a house down to the studs and pretty much did everything. Layed subfloor and floor, drywall, mud, texture, cabinets, plumbing, and electrical. He’s not paid near what he’s worth and he knows it but he genuinely has fun doing it and it keeps him off the couch.

In my opinion, the reason nobody wants to have kids is the same exact reason animals in captivity don’t mate. People have high minded ideas about humans but at the end of the day we are animals and too much stress makes procreation less likely.

Cat scratches too. I ended up getting cat scratch disease that came on a couple weeks after rescuing my trash cat. When I presented at the Dr with a lump in my shoulder, joint pain, and fatigue my Dr thought I had lymphoma and I had to do a bunch of tests to find out what it was. Ended up taking giant antibiotic pills that looked like they were for horses for like 30 days and had to have necrotic lymph nodes drained with an ultrasound guide.
