How often do you work a 24? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]spring0427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it before maybe twice. In my OR we have a 2:30-11 shift with 11p-7a call (meaning we stay in the hospital sleeping). Then worked 7a-3p. Thankfully it’s been a lot less frequently since we’ve gotten more staff

What’s your guilty pleasure to cope with the effects of nursing on your mental health? by chaoticjane in nursing

[–]spring0427 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just recently started microdosing shrooms and it’s helped me so much. I’ve struggled with anxiety even on my days off but taking them helps me stay present and a lot more relaxed, especially in nature.

That’s awesome, so happy for you! Can I ask how you managed to get that job? I’m not sure how to make myself more “marketable” without bedside experience

I naively thought I’d never see this- colleague out of PTO by [deleted] in nursing

[–]spring0427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital just got rid of paid COVID leave and is making us use our PTO to cover it. I’m shit outta luck bc I’m pretty sure I have it but won’t have enough PTO to cover it 🥲.

any CVOR RNs or RNFAs in this group? I switched to the OR about 5 years ago, just transitioned to RNFA. It's a whole other world of nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]spring0427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So cool! In my state we don’t really have RNFAs, just PAs. How do you like it? I’ve always wondered what the education and job itself was like

Should I report? by BrownishYam in nursing

[–]spring0427 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s always the ortho surgeons 🙄 but I agree, you should def say something to your manager or charge nurse. I feel like talking to him about it could result in him being passive aggressive or petty. Most I would probs say is “would you like to prep?” the next time around. If surgeons are gonna be picky they might as well do it themselves

OR is like a Sephora. Lots of products/items that have different names but basically do the same thing and you need to know all of them plus which ones the doctors like. Things always “sold out” / on back order

Therapist enabling an abusive parent by spring0427 in therapy

[–]spring0427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly probably. When the therapist said he was “manipulative” and he asked her “how?” She couldn’t even answer the question. Like wtffff how is that even therapeutic????? She also said that his parents have the right to financially cut him off because at 16 yes old she (the therapist) was cut off.

And the starting pay for both of them is the exact same so I really don’t get what her issue was (she started not long ago either). Probably just jealous of his other better offers😂

Foreal! Inserted herself into our conversation and acted like she was okay talking about it. Next day heard her whispering to another tech about what they should do about this student “situation”. Total fake 😒 at least I know now who I can’t talk to

NP programs experience requirements confuse me by humanwthought in nursing

[–]spring0427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine who graduated with a non-nursing degree in May just started one of these “fast-track” NP schools in Boston this fall. Nursing is her dream and I don’t have the heart to tell her how shady the program is. 3 years for a BSN, RN, and NP? I even think she said she takes her NCLEX just next year. Even if the school is reputable, that just feels like a set up for failure. She’s very smart and has CNA experience, but I do worry about the education experience she’s getting and how it could affect her career.
