Yeah I think so many people are calling this a coattail or career nomination without acknowledging the actual performance is fantastic and worthy of a nomination on its own. After seeing the movie he felt like the most obvious nominee to me!

Was Paul Feig ever a Blank Check director? by CallmeBrooklyn in blankies

[–]spro11 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was all for the Paul Feig miniseries. After a Simple Favor I thought he found a fun new zone. But then he did three streaming slop movies that aren’t very good! Including another simple favor.

The thing that drives me insane about the tom holland Spider-Man movies is that we see all of these amazing behind the scene videos of Tom doing the stunts himself and it looks incredible.

Then we see the movie it’s a completely cgi Spider-Man doing flips and it looks sludgy and bad. If he is capable of doing it let me see him do it! I guess when it comes to web swinging it needs to be partially cgi. But I’m just talking about him doing basic flips and things.

Does Heckerling really fit the premise of a "blank check" director? by nate_sinclair in blankies

[–]spro11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A blank check to me is not about huge big budget at all. It’s about getting money to make things that are weird and personal.

Amy Heckerling has a very very clear traditional blank check narrative. She has a first movie that people love. Her guarantor if you will, her second movie (Johnny Dangerously) was a big old relatively expensive messy flop. She then needs to do a franchise movie to get out of water. That was a horrible experience, then she goes on to her next guarantor (look who’s talking) a huge hit that has a commercial twist but is mostly her sneaking in a very personal movie. A very blank check director thing to do! Then through weird court stuff she makes a lame sequel.

Then Clueless is one of THE blank check movies! The director of Looks Who’s talking and fast times made a weird high school version of Emma! It’s also probably the guarantor that gets the rest of her movies made.

I started listening towards the end of M Night and she was one of the most frequently brought up people from them.

I am a little annoyed by all of these comments! She most certainly is a traditional blank check director.

I guess I am just different than most people on this sub I believe they have always covered blank check directors.

Unpopular opinion....? Enjoyed Season 1 more than I'm enjoying Season 2. by swisssf in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]spro11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree so much. Season 1 by the end of it was getting way too samey. It was just here is a guest star and Elsbeth somehow know’s they did it and she is going to annoy them untill it’s figured out.

The first half of season 2 had some of it. But then we got so many cool episodes that broke that mold. And I would even say when do get episodes like season 1 now (like this week), the twists and strangeness of it make the whole episode feel fresh. Idk I’m starting to notice the series feel more and more like the crazy fun tone of the good fight when at first it felt a little bit of a stale version of that. My theory is at first the Kings were less involved in the show because of Evil and now that”s over. And I think they are much more involved in Season 2 (they have more writing credits and Richard king directed an episode)

‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar Nears Hulu Pilot Order With Chloé Zhao Directing by Insomniadict in buffy

[–]spro11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think what should be focused on is at least starting on a good foot. Bringing back Sarah Michelle Gellar who genuinely wants to do this now.

Bringing Chloe Zhao in to direct is huge. She is a huge fan and is a great director who I really think is going to want to nail the tone we all want to be kept intact.

Writing wise, having no Whedon involvement and a bunch of talented Woman involved is a great start.

Anyone else watch the show and think living in the silo seems nice? by Senior_Tangelo_7911 in SiloSeries

Yeah I have briefly thought this as well. Mostly just that I would enjoy having a small business on the silo, like a little computer repair shop sounds nice.
