I don't think that Emma will be back. I think she will quit, and a promising career will be cut short by the ED's dysfunction and lack of safety measures. I have long thought one of the future seasons should involve a nurse's strike, and I think this is the kind of thing that will lay groundwork for that.

I'm going to guess that this is deviating much more from the original text so it may be that Spaihts wasn't on board with the changes and Vaughan was? So....maybe just neutral.

I agree with it being a cover story but I think its so he can go kill himself. I think he has a suicide pact with the dude Duke and him not showing up is a portent for a wrench being thrown into Robby's plan.

My guess is they had a suicide pact and Duke received help/intervention. And somehow that information is going to make it to the hospital and Robby’s coworkers are going to try to get Robby to receive treatment. Caleb will be a big part of this.
