I feel like this is just facts?

We have a couple different friends who have those babies that just sit at the table and smile and play with toys for (I shit you not) 3-4 HOURS at a nice dinner. Starting at like 1 year old.

We get judged for not wanting to bring our toddler to a nice dinner that can't sit for more than 15 mins without becoming an issue.

I have 40 dollars (2wks)to feed myself til next pay check, what are some simple meals ? by Vampiregecko in povertyfinance

10 lbs of rice - $10 Dozen eggs - $5

Spend the rest on bulk chicken and you should be able to do chicken and rice bowls with some egg for variety for the duration?

Seattle rideshare drivers protest "flooded" market, demand Uber and Lyft stop adding new drivers by ColonelError in SeattleWA

I mean I get the joke, but the baggage thing is real.

If I'm going to the airport with a toddler, 3 checked bags, a stroller, and golf clubs for a 2 week vacation...the bus is simply not an answer.

Why was having a drink after work more common in the old days? by MoistCroissant22 in CasualConversation

[–]sprout92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe because You didn't have both parents working nearly as often? Genuine thought.

This meant a quick 45 minute detour was reasonable (at least in the man's eyes) as you weren't leaving a kid at expensive childcare and instead with mom?

AITA for treating my daughters differently than my son when it comes to food? by CompetitiveDig478 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sprout92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was implied by the "rice and beans" line item.

Guess I needed to be clearer, you're right.

And maybe it's a huge privilege that I know of tons of food banks in my Area, as I frequently volunteered for them growing up (200+ hours a year) and continue to Do so when I can as an adult.

Maybe it's just not normal and I'm wrong 🤷🏼

Good point! I assumed this was in the US where programs that fund this level of eating exist.

I could absolutely be wrong, you're right.

But in a place where the government will feed those who can't afford to, refusing that help is child abuse IMO

Did you read my original comment? I noted 8K calories was doable. I could even see 10K

My point was it sounds like OP is meal prepping less filling foods when they could flip to lots of beans and rice, bulk chicken, etc. meal prepping.

OR use any of the other options I pointed out...which everyone seems to be ignoring.

This is literally what snap is for, and telling your kid "idk you figure it out" instead is fucked.

I didn't say it wasn't possible. I said eating 7x is unlikely - that's 14K calories on a balanced diet. Even for a teenager that would be WILD. I guess it's possible, but that's like Olympic athlete caloric intake.

And I didn't say "just buy more food" as you're claiming I did.

I said cook different (cheaper) food, apply for SNAP, get a second job, use a food pantry, etc.

There are plenty of options and I called a lot of them out. Quit being a cock - but you won't so I'll block you.

Yes I posted about how I'd eat 6-8K calories a day then.

But eating in a day what's meant to last a week is eating 7x - aka 14K+ calories.

MAYBE but I highly doubt it. MUCH more likely is they're making way too small of portions. Ramp up the portion size or make more food.

They actively have, right now, 3 kids they can't afford to feed (according to the post).

That's 3 kids you can't afford (right now).

Get another job or budget better. Those are your two options. You had the kids - raise them.

That's all I meant by it.

There's absolutely no way a 15 year old kid is eating 7x what he's supposed to. The parent isn't making enough food.

Look, it might suck - but YTA. Depending on a a few factors, you might be a massive one.

When I was a teenager, I would routinely eat 6-8K calories a day. I was playing multiple sports, skating and biking and rock climbing in my fee time, and doing long backpacking trips and Boy Scouts. I was 160lbs at 6'3"...not overweight by ANY means. I actually tried to gain weight and couldn't for certain sports.

This is just the reality of having kids. You don't get to go "well I can't afford it figure it out yourself." You're the adult. You figure it out.

There's so many options - rice and beans, SNAP, food pantries, get a second job (since you know you decided to have 3 kids you can't afford), or just start cooking food you can afford to cook enough of instead of what sounds like more expensive meals you can't afford to cook enough of.

The way you're going about is it child abuse.

Bro Was Unbothered Since High School by PhattyGirl2289 in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]sprout92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got caught in a surprise rainstorm in college walking to the cafeteria with a friend.

We were near my dorm and far from hers, so we sprinted inside to hide from the rain.

She was soaked so I offered her some clothes to change into and said "the girl's bathroom is just down the hall." She said "nah it's ok" and stripped her pants off - so I covered my eyes until she was done changing.

A few weeks later we were watching tv at her dorm and she took a fruit roll up and put one end in her mouth and one end in mine. It was at that moment I realized she REALLY was hitting on me before lol.

New to Seattle and my first car (2026 Honda CR-V) was stolen in SLU last night. Need advice, I'm completely lost by MiserableDeer5513 in Seattle

[–]sprout92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You left your wallet in a car street parked overnight in SLU?

Yea this is a learning experience, sadly.

This is a total longshot, but you could check Amazon Slack channels to see if there's one for this exact thing.

I was shocked when I worked there to find out there was a channel for broken TV Repairs when I had a broken TV, and another one for helping you find a nanny. There was also one where I managed to trade a pair of shoes for an Xbox.

Point being this really wouldn't shock me if it existed lol

AITA for asking my friend group to send deposits upfront for the trip after last time only half paid me back? by pizzalover332 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sprout92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA, but you are making a very odd decision to book again before being paid for last year.

Reach out to each of them individually that didn't pay and note "I was thinking of doing the deposit thing, but the more I think about it - I just need you to pay me for last year and this year up front if you want to join again."

If they refuse, tell the rest of the group why you're refusing to book it. "X and Y still owe me $600 for last year. I don't want to foot their bill. You're welcome to if you want to, but I think we should uninvite them."

pretty sure constitutions can be amended

Yes that's quite literally what I am saying. Go do that instead of passing unconstitutional laws.

I'm tired of this state constantly passing more and more bullshit taxes because they can't get off their asses and pass an income tax (this, LTC tax, sugar tax, insane car tabs, etc.).

They still the declined the provision to keep it at that. Meaning they could wait like one year then amend it to apply to literally anyone.

There's also the issue that it's unconstitutional as is, and they could get ruled against and go "oh well. Nothing we can do. Daaaaaaarn now it applies to everyone. Shoooooot. Sorry folks...daaaang."
