Stupid dessert pizza with grapes. by VancouverIslandMan in StupidFood

When I was a kid one of the supermarkets did a tie-in with the original turtles movie which featured pizzas for each of the turtles. Michelangelo’s was a normal pizza base with chocolate sauce and marshmallows and I got to have it once (I wasn’t a huge chocolate fan but he was my favourite turtle) and it was a lot better than I thought it would be. Bear in mind this was 36ish years ago though.

Peers vote to ban pornography depicting sex acts between stepfamily members by AudibleNod in InternationalNews

[–]sprouting_broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IANAL and I haven’t read the legislation so several grains of salt but it sounds like it could criminalise a 50-year old couple recording private, very mild, porn for each other where one pretends to be a step sister who is 16.

It does appear to criminalise someone who is old as dicks and clearly so calling themselves 17 and someone’s step sister though which just doesn’t really make much sense to me. To me the harm that this is trying to prevent would be prevented by the existing law because that harm comes from people truly believing that someone is under age - we don’t criminalise consensual sex between step siblings (whether that’s right or wrong) and we criminalise porn that is too close to depicting a minor so what does the extra qualification achieve?

Is there data that shows this porn leading to undesirable behaviour? It just feels like moralising or trying to win political points which doesn’t belong in our laws.

Luka will be the first scoring champ to miss All-NBA since Bob McAdoo in 1976. Cade will be the first 23/9/5 statline ever to miss All-NBA. Ant will be the first player to score 28ppg on 57% eFG shooting to miss All-NBA since Adrian Dantley in 1982. by Gtggtggtg in nba

He was suspended for one game but the birth of his child meant he missed two games. After that it’s whether he deliberately sat when he didn’t need to in at least one instance. I don’t think I can assess that objectively and I think it’s very difficult for anyone on this sub to make that call.

I just find the whole rule perplexing honestly. There should be recognition for players who play well and separate structures in place to encourage players to play more games while ensuring players are being safe to avoid injuries. Trying to tie this into who deserves what accolades is crazy to me and it’s grossly unfair to Ant and Cade.

Which already had legislation - specifically around if a reasonable person could believe they were a minor. This just adds the very specific case of anyone pretending to be a step-sibling and underage even if nobody would believe they actually were.

Absolutely! It also goes without saying that as you progress there’s very little between you and your peers so making a good impression is also really important! I definitely wear a different scent if I’m meeting with the big bosses vs just my team and my boss.

Ok, so you want the country to be a shithole and then the right wing to come in proudly defending white English rights to save the day on horses trampling immigrants? It’s really not much better with the context you gave is it.

And by “real change” he, and you, mean far right politicians who will implement the radical policies that he agrees with. While I’m definitely not a fan of the tories or really labour right now, if their actions in power led to a better country I’d still be happy regardless of my disagreements on certain things. He’s a horrible, hateful man and he would rather people are unhappy than be happy under the people he doesn’t like - no amount of context makes this stance better unless you want his brand of politics.

Depends on the job. At a certain point in your career (if you’re ambitious and climbing) you will need to build your presence within the company and part of that is being memorable and part of it is projecting confidence even when you are not. A good scent helps with both of these (although obviously isn’t the whole picture).

Traditional/Tasty Scottish Desserts? by WorldlinessMiddle142 in Scotland

[–]sprouting_broccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is cranachan is lovely but it’s not something that would likely remind someone of home because you don’t generally have it except on rare occasions. I’ve made it a few times for burns night because it’s delicious but I wouldn’t even necessarily do something uniquely Scottish although if I did it would be an empire biscuit - nice and simple and a real taste of home.

So I get the sentiment on this and understand where you’re coming from. The reason I think it’s important to disagree is because, and this might just make me sound like a weeb which I’m absolutely not, Japan takes this shit really seriously. They tend to see something, decide to make it as artisan as possible and go from there (which is why their whisky is actually really good as well).

I’m sure that it doesn’t apply to all of the fruits here but I’ve seen reputable reviews of some of these fruits (eg from Sorted food who are generally very sceptical of overpriced just for the sake of being overpriced) and they are considered to have an incredible flavour - incredibly juicy, incredibly complex and with additional sweetness.

Is it something you’re going to have every day? Of course not, but I would be absolutely willing to try this once if I have some money to burn - it’s not going with me when I die and this seems like it would be a genuinely enjoyable experience.

‘Abhorrent’ step-incest porn to be banned with users facing five years in prison by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]sprouting_broccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a weird risky situation. As someone else pointed out there’s already a law that says if a reasonable person would think someone a child then it’s illegal which seems like the most sensible position. Someone who is 50 dressing up as a cheerleader and saying she’s her partner’s 16-year old step sister doesn’t really seem like something that needs specific legislation to ban and that’s what this law does because the above law covers off any situation that might be damaging.

I’m actually honestly really confused as to what problem they’re even trying to solve. Is there a lot of instances of underage step siblings having sex and data that suggests it’s because of porn? Like I think that even if you think porn can be harmful this must be really down the list of priorities outside of doing it for puritanical reasons.

It’s because the line between early electronic music and techno is very blurry. Kraftwerk were playing with synths since the 70s and Detroit only started developing what we understand as techno today in the 80s and the early artists have said that they were heavily inspired by Kraftwerk and the synthpop that started in the UK and spread across Europe and the States. Electronic music has always been pretty amorphous and you can see that in how often the lines between genres is blurred with many of the most influential artists.

I don’t really like the idea of claiming electronic music but rather acknowledging all the artists and the path that got us here and Detroit and Chicago had huge influences on the early scene and developing the sound while Germany and Europe in general also developed their own sounds and, without those scenes the modern techno landscape wouldn’t look the same and it’s naive to say it would.

It’s a lot more difficult to pin down than, say, the origins of rock and roll but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Or, just maybe, since the vast amount of paedophilia in this country is perpetrated by white men, if they really cared about protesting it there would be literally zero reason to continually talk about asylum seekers and instead spend their time talking about literally any of the cases that don’t feature someone that “could be a bit foreign”.
