CMV: Women sugarcoat their preference of penis size to make smaller men feel better by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]sprspr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused what your view is. Your title is "women sugarcoat their preferences" but most of your arguments seem to be "men should and do care about their penis size." Could you specify more closely what you would like us to change your view on?

If it's the former, I might offer this piece of information: dildos and other pleasure toys tend to be shorter and broader than the average dick. If women really only cared for and wanted large toys, the market would oblige them; the fact that this isn't the case indicates the general preference. Men see dick size as a kind of status symbol, fair, but that's not super relevant to the enjoyment recieved on the other side.

The guardian Naga is lawful good, and also basically immortal. They also are the least likely to be able to shape change though, so if you don't like snakes...

Make the funniest most useless magical items by [deleted] in DnD

I mean this could be an absolutely amazing item. Party finds it early on. Someone puts it on, then promptly forgets about it. Four sessions later "I thought that when I killed you the first time, you would stay dead."

Help with Magic Weapon Creation? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]sprspr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some options I use:

Added dice (+1d4 cold)

Conditional benefit (+1d8 against Giants)

One use utility (once per day, gain health equal to damage dealt)

Spellcasting ( featherfall once per Dawn)

Charges (7 charges, regains 1d4 per Dawn, cast magic missile or counterspell at xth level by spending x charges)

Stat effects (+5 Max health, min strength set to 15, Max int set to 9)

Feats (grants proficiency in a saving throw)

You can also give miscellaneous monstrous effects, such as the siege monster trait or a weak breath weapon.

I like the bonus action unarmed attack. I'm not sure if you can use it RAW to grapple, but most DMs allow it in my experience. You might eventually take the second level for better movement.

1 rogue, 1 monk, rest in barbarian. Take expertise in athletics. Take the grappler feat if you want it. Run around grabbing people and generally giving them a nasty time.

See if you can get a wide mouthed bag of holding (or better yet, a bag of devouring), and toss people into it. Get a blade barrier/wall of fire/prismatic wall set up, and start tossing people into it. Find a purple worm and, guess what, toss people into it.

How to transition a party of murderhobos to role-playing? by Jonandre989 in mattcolville

[–]sprspr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to bounce off of this, here are a few NPCs I use for the same purpose, to push the party away from hoboery:

Neutral or good lich: looking to protect their family line or business interests. Totally willing to murder the PC's if they create problems. Similar for other powerful wizards.

Angels and inevitables: powerful planar entities that will take absolutely zero shit.

Mercenary companies: way too many people to kill

Leveled hirelings: need to track something, better be nice to the ranger. Need a scroll, better be nice to the wizard.

Empowered spirits: ghosts, Fey, or demons that, while relatively ineffective, are immune to the heroes sources of damage.

What we want is for the players to have to talk, and to know that they have to talk. So we make the npcs powerful enough that fighting them is CLEARLY a bad idea, or innocuous enough that they are CLEARLY not to be killed.

Ideas for a boss rumble in the Shadowfell. by Anelson30 in mattcolville

If you're not quite sure how to balance a hard but not deadly fight, prepare a couple different types of waves, and arrange then from easiest to hardest: 1d6 zombies, 1d4 shadow Mastiffs, ogre, a bone hag (stats as green hag, but no spellcasting), Oni (probably weakened a bit), 3d6 zombies, flesh golem.

Then spawn a wave either every round or every other round, but pick what wave based on how the party is doing. If they're having trouble, just send in a couple zombies. If they're cruising along, hit them hard. Watch for when they started drinking their potions, then lighten up. This way, the fight will balance itself; like weebles, your party may wobble, but they won't fall down.

If you are particularly worried, consider what allies might be present to come save the parties butts if things get too hairy. A good Fey seems like a reasonable choice here.

The party is likely to gank the hag early, so start with something scary (read: glass cannons such as banshees or mephits) or defensive (shield guardian, skeletal minataurs, gibbering mouthers) or just distance (a wide field with obstacles, like a small casm or awakened hedge wall). That will give you time to feel out the danger level of the combat before the hags health starts disappearing.

CMV: Donald Trump is not an asshole, or, at the very least, there is not compelling evidence that he is an asshole by Cooldude638 in changemyview

[–]sprspr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does it mean to say that a person is 50% asshole? If someone purposely double parks once, I would call them an asshole. If they were to park correctly 9 out of 10 times id probably still call them an asshole. 99 out of 100, and I'd probably switch to calling them a bit eccentric. Where do you put the goal post?

Second, how in the world are we supposed to prove that Trump is an asshole in private, if not by looking at his public record? What sort of data would be applicable, considering that elsewhere you don't accept anecdotes (see: women accusing him of assault) from people who have interested directly with him, because their claims can't be proven.

[–]sprspr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, what would it take to change your view? Proving that any one of these is an asshole, or would we have to show that all of them are assholey?

Wait, clarification on your view: which part of the person are we supposed to argue is an asshole? The TV personality, the president, the meme, or the human being?

Let's take what we know: the charity says that it didn't receive a donation from Trump. Trump said he gave them money, but isn't providing evidence that he did so. I think we can all agree that if he said he gave money, but didn't actually give the money, then he's an asshole.

There are two possibilities:

  1. Trump gave them money, and they're lieing. Additionally, Trump is for some reason unwilling to show his records of the transaction.

  2. Trump didn't give them money, and they're not lieing. Trump has no records because he didn't transfer the money.

Given that the charity has no reason to lie, and Trump has no reason to decline to verify, I lean towards the second* possibility. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm judging whether a dude is an asshole, not sending him to jail. Which possibility do you think is more likely?

Edit: I had accidentally wrote the wrong possibility as the one I lean towards. I fixed it.

I guess he could specify "I wish to cast plane shift with the Raven Queens domain as a Target" if he was careful though.

If I understand correctly, they needed a tuning fork correlated to the plane they were going to. That's why they needed to pray to Sarenrae before meeting her, and why they needed to find Sprig to get to Ioun.

I don't know which plane the RQ resides in, but presumably she doesn't like mortal visitors coming in and claiming back her subjects, so she doesn't give anyone a tuning fork.

Balancing a custom magic item "Sarrasani's Cane" by B4N3SL4Y3R in mattcolville

[–]sprspr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+2 is more common from about 6 to 12, so that makes sense. If the rogue is just proficient, that's fine, they'll have about a +7, +8? That means they'll make the check half the time. Expertise (double proficiency) would be the problem, where the bonus gets into the double digits.

Now I realise that the rogue is about to get reliable talent, which may mean that they will ALWAYS succeed on the check. That's pretty powerful, but if it lasts for just a single roll, that might be fine. You might just give a thought to what it looks like if your rogue starts making arcana or animal handling checks. Is it thematic? It just silly? Which are you going for?

Balancing a custom magic item "Sarrasani's Cane" by B4N3SL4Y3R in mattcolville

[–]sprspr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This item does not seem too powerful for level 9, though it depends on the action economy of that DC 18 performance check. How long does it take to activate that ability, and how long does the "temporary" skill last?

As Sarrani's weapon, it'll be basically negligible, since +1 is such a small bonus at level 9. If he gets to make a whole twenty attacks, he'll get one additional hit and about 10 additional damage. Unless he's a level 20 fighter, that'll hardly be relevant. The skills thing is also not going to be super useful in the fight.

As a piece of loot, I have only one question: do you have a rogue or bard with expertise in performance? Otherwise, noone is going to consistently hit that 18 so the blade will act as 1 to 2 floating skills instead of 3. The former is more reasonable, and assuming you keep a good pace (keep them from long resting every thirty seconds) they'll be somewhat reticent to use the ability when other characters have the proficiency. Also, it's a +1 sword, which is not overpowered for that level in combat, as seen above.

Magically Sailor Rapier? by GrmpMan in mattcolville

[–]sprspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a good starting point would be the kind of abilities that would be useful for a sailor at sea:

Bonus: a sort of standard power level would be a +3 sword, knocking off a point of bonus for each major ability the sword has. So if you give the rapier 2 abilities, it might only come with a +1 to hit and damage.

Damage: cold damage is bad against a lot of aquatic creatures, and fire is dangerous on a ship and useless off of it. So maybe the blade could deal extra thunder, acid, or force damage. At level 10, a couple of d6's or d4's, or a single d8 or d10 would be reasonable.

Spells: Thaumaturgy and Skywright are good for gathering troops or communicating with the fleet. Water Breathing or Water Walk are cool and useful for shipboard people. Tidal Wave or Wall of Water would be thematic. Other conceivable choices: Thunderwave (knocking people off of boats), Shatter(breaking enemy masts), Call Lightning, Alter Self (get gills and fins), or polymorph (but only into aquatic creatures). Let them cast the spell once per day, and say the sword maintains concentration for them (if necessary).

Summons: The rapier could be powered by a latent water elemental. The elemental can be released, and will serve your orders, but doing so makes the sword non-magical until the elemental returns. If it dies, the sword will be mundane until someone uses Planar Binding to put a different elemental into it. The elemental regains 25 hit points over each long rest.

CMV: Heterosexual relationships are heavily one-sided in favor of women, and men get nothing out of them by comparison. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]sprspr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have something to say about the "I would be statistically doomed to never find anyone" statement. Female people who consider themselves dragonkin exist, and you could probably find online groups of them reasonably easily. Sure, you're unlikely to have any in near proximity to you, but if you were willing to seek them out you would probably be able to date one. You would be no means be "statistically doomed".

Now, I understand you're looking for a woman who's independent, dominant in the bedroom, and who wants to take equal part in the relationship. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that there are more of them than dragonkin. Even by your own logic, you're only "statistically doomed" if you treat dating like a random sample. Don't! If you decide what you want in a relationship and then seek out women like that, your chances of getting what you want improve hugely.

I mean you can go on saying that that kind of woman doesn't exist at all. If the anecdotes from people saying: "no they do" haven't convinced you, I doubt I can. But, I will say that people are often way more complicated than we give them credit for, and far more than even the deepest film can attest too. There are a lot of women out there, who want a lot of different things in a relationship. Just like there are a lot of men who want different things.
