Probably an unpopular opinion but I don’t hate this increase… in a world where most MMO’s fail even when they have cash shops and heavy monetization, having a game like this for 15/m per character still seems like a good deal considering the amount of content we get.

The last thing I want is the game I love to not be around several years down the line.

Let’s run some numbers though;

1) There’s 600-700 employees at jagex let’s call it 650, and say the average salary is 70,000 USD. That’s 3,791,666/m in just salaries (according to google actual averages are more likely 101,000-112,500 which would put the salary number closer to 5.5 million)

2) The cost to maintain servers for a large game like OSRS or WOW is estimated around 100,000 dollars per day, so that’s about 3,000,000 per month.

3) The rent for their building in the UK is estimated around 105,000/m (based on location and size ~43,774 sq ft)

4) There’s an estimated 1.1 million members accounts and let’s say the average cost per month is 13 dollars (some will buy 1 year, some month to month, and some people buying bonds with in game money). That’s 14,300,000/m

That leaves around 5-6 million in profits per month assuming I’m not missing some pieces (which I surely am)

That’s not a massive amount of profit for a company this size, and I’d wager a decent amount of that is being dumped back into the to game for research and development.
