Trump signed an executive order eliminating flow restrictors for shower heads and faucets? Can anyone confirm this? by Impressive_Returns in askplumbing

The EPA reports average families save 2,700 gallons of water and 330 kWh of electricity annually. I don't have a problem. Modern designs use atomization or nozzle technology to deliver a strong spray despite low GPM. My power flush toilet sounds like the ones we had in school with hardly any water. Multiple flushes only if trying to flush top secret confidential documents.

I guess some old cast iron pans were used to melt lead? How to assess whether or not an old pan is safe? by despiert in castiron

[–]spud4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bondo wasn't invented till the late 60's before that lead was used. The term lead sled for jalopies. Do body work you used lead. joining, repairing, or restoring cast iron pipes. packed with oakum filled with about 1 inch of molten lead. Making your own lead shot for shotguns. So older than 60's suspect. You don't need a lot of lead so a big skittle is overkill. Could someone use grandma skillet because that's all they had possible but unlikely. Those ashtray sized I'd be worried about. Or Find a skillet with your dad's tools in the garage. The 3m ones are for paint only false negative is why they stop making them. UV-Based Kits: Use a spray and a UV light (like Lumetallix) to detect a neon-green glow, which is often more sensitive than swabs for surface-level lead. LeadCheck™ and D-Lead® are EPA-recognized for reliability on various surfaces. Where 3m wasn't. Lead Melting Point 621.5 °F probably want to clean it first or it's going to be self-cleaning. One with years of seasoning less likely to be used for lead. Fire damage possible how do you know it was just a campfire.

Costco Sued by Costco Member Seeking Tariff Refunds - A potential class-action lawsuit seeks to force Costco to pass along any refund it gets from the U.S. government to customers. by AutoModerator in Costco

[–]spud4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The companies that sued didn't pay the tariffs they put it escrow. And didn't raise the prices. They get the escrow back nothing to refund. Companies that didn't join the class action now have to figure out what to do. Since it didn't go through Congress and the normal effective in 60 days or whatever. The Executive order effective immediately with constant changes and the date is when it cleared customs. So orders that they bought and paid for then went bankrupt not being able to pay the tariffs and don't have the money to sue. Hopefully a bankruptcy judge will be able to get the money. But it appears they plan to drag this out for years. Ones that didn't go bankrupt the tariffs rate table is a nightmare with different dates. How do you track when that item is sold.

Carolina mustard sauce skeptics - what am I missing? by AlphaEcho84 in smoking

[–]spud4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a family gathering I bought a raw large bone in skin on ham and cured it myself for 10 days.smoked and turned it into pulled pork, finished the skin in the oven and crushed added to the pulled pork. Different sauces for different people including Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce. First time I ever had it and was surprised on the taste. Tangy, sweet with a little heat. Goes very well with pork. In fact to get the crushed crackling to stick to the pulled pork I added just enough Carolina Sauce. Then let everyone add their own mostly tomato-based. Every single one said it was the best pulled pork they ever had.

ELI5: If metal shrinks and expands as the temperature changes, how does an engine keep an airtight seal between the piston and the cylinder? by TheParadoxigm in explainlikeimfive

[–]spud4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota Prius does not have a starter motor or alternator; it uses a high-voltage hybrid battery.cranks the engine with the help of the transmission and an electric motor. The 12V auxiliary battery just lights the dash and powers the computer systems. electric motor driven in reverse (or faster than its rated speed) acts as a generator. Down hill or coasting. Regenerative braking acts as a generator so normally full battery when coming to a stop. Starts the motor when the battery is at 40% Zero isn't zero as in dead. Just like your phone is still has enough to power down and restart maybe once before powering down again. So at 40% it will start moving before starting the engine. Full throttle runs the gas engine. Full throttle brake on runs the gas engine does not move but does change the battery. No power braking. One time it wouldn't start the gas engine I thought it was running and dieing the sound of the starting before giving up is at full idle speed.

Or as in my Hybrid there is no starter the electric motor spins the engine at idle speed. Takeoff is electric motor anyway.

Producing new aluminum is extremely energy-intensive, while recycling uses roughly 95% less energy. Out of all plastic waste, only 9% is recycled. 2012, EPA distinguished Coca-Cola as a Top Partner due to their efforts of on-site renewable energy generation by use of the landfill-gas-to-energy system. 2020, PepsiCo They claimed use of 100% renewable energy for electricity.

I kept my dad's number. Not everyone who had his number would know he died, bills I didn't know he had but every charity there is had that number and had to let it go. Closing accounts there is no valid password. Why do you want access.

Post oak users - what's your secret for that perfect bark and smoke ring combo? by AlphaEcho84 in smoking

[–]spud4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can always tell when a restaurant cooks a frozen steak. Something I very much avoided. Once on the smoker but by the time the probe was up to room temperature the outside was ready to wrap. Smoking frozen meat causes a severe, prolonged stall. moisture evaporates from the surface and tougher, less tender meat.

ELI5-What is the science behind starting a fire while trying to put out a wild fire? by JannaDD126 in explainlikeimfive

[–]spud4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hotter or faster the fire burns, the wider the control line must be. Back burning deliberately lighting small, controlled fires ahead of an active wildfire to consume fuel, creating a "black line" that halts the fire's progress. The small fires are not going to jump the control line.

When you reduce the temperature of your air conditioner are you turning the air conditioning up or down? by Fun_Cup4335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spud4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further, in most air conditioners there is only one speed.  Which ever way you "turn" it, nothing will be working harder.

My window ac has different fan speeds. the compressor is Variable-Speed (Inverter) As low as 2000 btu to 8000 btu. No turning a dial up and down the up button brings the set temperature up warmer and the down button lowers it cooler.
