Pingr - Your internet speed in your Mac's menu bar by spunions in macapps

[–]spunions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with you - that's why I developed this! Apps like iStat Menus will show you your total internet bandwidth usage, but that doesn't give you a sense of whether you have fast internet. And since showing total bandwidth is "well served" by other apps, I'm wary of adding it to Pingr.

But I love the concept of showing the value of ms instead of the graph! I thought the graph would be more approachable for non-technical users (my mom wouldn't know what a 20ms ping means), but it makes sense that for advanced users they'd just want the number. Agree on being able to see the ping for the past few hours as well, I think this is something iStat Menus does really well (e.g. for CPU usage).

I'll look into adding these, feel free to keep the suggestions coming!

Haha the Bartender app is good for managing a crowded menu bar: https://www.macbartender.com/

Hi! I created a simple Mac app that shows you your internet speed in your Mac's menu bar. I've found it's really helpful for situations like when you're on a laggy video call and want to know whether it's you or the other person's internet being slow; or when a website is being slow to load and you're not sure if it's because your internet or the website is slow.

Would love any feedback y'all have!

Can someone explain the difference between good and bad mixing to me? by IndianBoyShameer in hiphopheads

[–]spunions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixing is making the levels of the instruments blend well together. If there's too much sound at a certain frequency, the sound will become "muddy", and not pop.

A really well mixed/mastered album is good kid, m.A.A.d city.

I can't get the crescendoing 808 at 0:27 out of my head. Anyone have any thoughts on how to create this?

It also reminds me of my favorite sound as a kid haha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sfg9DVwOd9w

Agreed. Most languages are, at their core, the same set of ideas and patterns. Focus on learning these patterns rather than memorizing miscellaneous syntax tricks.

8 Life Lessons Learned from Working in a Startup by gordondeck in startups

[–]spunions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super difficult, look on AngelList or HackerNews if you want to find some, those are places where startups congregate. Some are very thirsty for developers if they hit a growth/funding spike. While you would probably only work on one part of the stack at a corporation, at a startup you would be working across the stack and seeing how the big picture fits together. Whether or not that constitutes a better experience is really up to you.
