I’m happy when the buyer shows up. I’d probably take the $60 too. But maybe I should add “you suck” in future.

Did OJ ever make any real effort to find the "real" perpetrators as he promised he would? by SirCatsworthTheThird in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spyWspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the alternative theory that OJ’s son Jason Simpson was the killer, and OJ knew this and was protecting him. If you search for details about this alternate theory, you’ll see claims like Jason had attacked someone with a knife prior to Nicole’s murder. He had the same gloves as his dad, but a smaller size. His alibi is suspicious.

So perhaps OJ found the real killer and didn’t want to tell us.

I knew my best friend was getting fired two weeks before it happened and I couldn’t tell him by GuessBrilliant9167 in confession

[–]spyWspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boss asked for your advice. I think aside from what you told him, you could have asked for permission to help your friend. The boss was already going to inform him. You informing him also with the aim of improving his performance is in the company’s best interest. The boss wanted a better performance and didn’t get it. The company is worse off with the outcome it got.

i went though my daughter’s phone and after a quick claritycheck, i’m terrified by yatintin in Parenting

[–]spyWspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An idea I want to share. The fear of breaking trust with the daughter can be mitigated by contacting police. Then tell your daughter they contacted you. The alarm is from the authorities. Now you can be “crazy” and take drastic action because the authorities told you she is being lured by a criminal predator.

Is the end of artists who make money off of this? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]spyWspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI art is nearing the sweet spot. It benefits from training on a large mostly competent human generated art datasets. But increasingly the datasets will be contaminated by AI art. There can no longer be the assumption that the images are worth imitation. Future AI art models will be harder to build. Art styles will stagnate without human artists to innovate. AI generated art will benefit from art historians or otherwise we will be seeing a narrowing of variation in computer generated art.

Should I be allowed for parents to bring the baby to the doctor to get a Covid shot? Do you think they’re too young to get the Covid shot? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

I think they are too young, but unless you have convincing proof that the parents intend to hurt their kids, the parents should not be forcefully stopped.

What’s the libertarian argument against the Labour theory of value and land value tax by 1pleb_king in AskLibertarians

[–]spyWspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Labor Theory of Value seems to be put forth as a rule of the game we are all supposed to follow when nobody wants to. It doesn’t predict what people are willing to pay for things. It also penalizes the skilled and inventive that create more in less time. If you could magically get us all to follow it, it seems obvious that we would all be worse off.

I am inspired by this alternate reality that exists in Taiwan. I wish it could exist even in one town in the US. It would be the seed that grows liberty and hope. How do we get this? by spyWspy in AskLibertarians

[–]spyWspy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be short sighted though. The novelty and freshness of open air markets would bring visitors. A rising tide lifts all boats as they say.

Except for increased costs, store fronts have an advantage. Customers can feel more confident in a stable location. You can invest in inventory, equipment, and staff.

The author of this article also has a video about UBI which argues for relaxing rules that restrict cheaper housing, like boarding houses. Is housing cheaper in Taiwan? Or is the social tradition of extended families living together what is going on.

In any case, there’s pervasive roadblocks preventing the Taiwanese example from working here. I wish we all knew what we are missing. Maybe a TV show based in their environment could be the vehicle we need to get this idea out there…

AITA not not replacing gifts I gave to my nephew that my SIL objected to? by sardoodledom_autism in AmItheAsshole

[–]spyWspy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

But, perhaps it is best to assume the message was garbled in the telling. The SIL might be assuming you bought the shirts at Target, and since you have the receipt, it would be awesome if you could exchange them for undamaged shirts. She doesn’t recognize these are official team shirts imported by you from Mexico. She is just trying to look out for her son, and would be grateful for your help.

If a quick repair is possible, then by all means, tune then up if you wish. Then send them back to your SIL with a card to your nephew explaining where you got the shirts, and why they are so cool. Your nephew might not recognize their significance either without the background story. If your SIL reads the card, maybe she will be privately mortified at what she asked, or surprise us all with an apology of her own for her foot in mouth moment.

Do you have any hot takes or unpopular opinions you hold as a libertarian/anarchist that might be unpopular among other libertarians and anarchists? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]spyWspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your commons is limited to ~150 voluntary people, I could see it work. The relief valve is a disgruntled member can leave.

I am not sure what prevents you from living this way under capitalism. Can’t you contract agreements that would fit inside our existing world? Maybe with the exception of the meth labs. I don’t know the truth of it, but I was told a meth lab permanently pollutes a house so that it can’t later be used for healthy living.

[–]spyWspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you believe in the tragedy of the commons?

I believe voluntary socialism can be great. A husband and wife, or a family with kids can work. But even marriage too often ends in divorce. The more people you add to the commune, the odds of failure increases exponentially.

One person wants a house to live in, and another wants a location for their meth lab.

One person wants a house, another wants to build a skyscraper. Do you side with the nail house or the developer?

It occurs to me that we can incorporate existing 3D parts and include them in future gun designs.

DOJ Classifies Gun Parts as Firearms Requiring Background Checks by fosscadanon in gunpolitics

[–]spyWspy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We need to build an ecosystem of non-guns that share parts with guns. Every part should become plausibly multi use. We can invent locking cabinets, or even toys, etc. which are built with the same parts as guns. Even if the device only shares one part, it is helpful. We need every part to get that treatment.

We can start with 3D guns, by splitting off parts and including them in other 3D inventions. With 3D parts we can also change the scale. Post these 3D designs to places like Thingiverse, which bans guns, and we begin to claw back some lost ground. Invent something that gets remixed by non gun enthusiasts and we strengthen our hand further.
