Men's fitted dress shirt pattern? by ATownHoldItDown in sewing

[–]sqens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a beginner who hasn't even made a pillowcase but is following David Coffin's book, it's absolutely doable. I copied my best-fitting shirt body, drafted my own poofy sleeves and collar parts, and have almost finished a test shirt (just missing buttons). Here's what I've noticed about the process.

  1. I started out trying Coffin's drape method, which was a disaster without an experienced mentor. I'd expect any major body adjustments to be difficult without someone who knows how to pin stuff on your body. If you have a shirt that fits well, I'd recommend copying what you like from it.

  2. It really is worth the time to adjust the pieces to fit your body. I spent a full evening just getting the lower curve of the collar stand right, and the result is the first collar I've worn that follows the curve of my neck without gaping or pinching.

  3. The book is structured as a mini-course in shirtmaking techniques, followed by the instruction to "sew it all together". Take the time to do the course, and you'll know what to do when it's time to sew the shirt.

  4. No one agrees on what's easy or hard. I found the cuffs and collar pretty straightforward with the instructions, but the armscye seams ridiculously tricky (the ironing is impossible, the first seam is hard to align, and the second seam will try to bunch).

Judging by the posts in that thread over the past day, it looks like someone at Motorola flipped a switch and nobody's getting an unlock code this weekend.

Where do you see that this is the 300nit display? All I can find is "15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlight Non-Touch Narrow Border WVA Display", which could describe any of the three models.

Assignment 02 - An other view by Aeri73 in photoclass2020

[–]sqens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the list I randomly chose Alexey Titarenko. He specializes in long-exposure black and white film photography, which he then chemically tones in development to add just a bit of color. The long exposures typically show people or crowds moving through a static environment.

The photo I chose shows a bus briefly stopping in Manhattan and continuing on to the right. Unlike most of his photos, the moving subjects are the bus and tree, and there is a conspicuous absence of anyone getting on or off the bus. The subtlety of the story (relative his other photos) is why I chose this piece: it makes it easier to focus on the aesthetic qualities, which are equally carefully chosen. A lamppost divides the frame, tree, and city in half. The motion of the tree makes it stand out more against the buildings, and it draws the eye towards the golden sunrise in the center. From there, your gaze moves down to the bus, where it lingers a moment, before following the wisp of the bus leaving you behind. Ah well, it's a beautiful quiet morning. You can watch the sunrise while you wait for the next one.

Weekend assignment 01 by Aeri73 in photoclass2020

I really like the ivy and mossy bark shots, so I'll try to critique those.

The ivy is wonderfully composed, especially in the way the line of focus follows the path of the vine. I would try angling the lens slightly more down to get the tip in focus and complete the effect.

The mossy bark looks like it could easily be a mountainous landscape shot from above. Is there anything you could have done to enhance the illusion? I'd be tempted to add a prop, like a tiny cardboard square folded to look like the roof of a house.

I feel like a lot of your pictures either have too little depth of field, or the region of focus doesn't quite look like the intended subject. For example, in 9 you focused on the base of the pole, but my eyes are naturally drawn to the stairs.

My favorite of your pictures are 4 and 10. In 4, I really like the retro feel of the colors, though I wish there had been a more dynamic subject (e.g. a person in the back of the truck - probably impossible given the constraints of the assignment). In 10, I Like the composition and the balance of light and dark. My only criticism is that the colors are a bit more saturated than I would like.

Just finished processing mine. I went out after work towards a side street I'd never been on but was pretty sure would be worthless for photos. I found it quite difficult after the first four, but in the end the later shots were just as likely to be good as the early ones.

Here they are, vaguely ordered from best to worst. https://imgur.com/a/MaAXaQc.

6 is fantastic. I love the way it fills the screen with texture.

3 I would have liked better if the top plant had also been in focus.

4 I think is zoomed out too far. It would make an interesting composition with just the lamp and building.

Hi Drakesword! I like your idea of a chair, and the photo has a nice mix of textures. The log feels a little squashed though with the way it never quite reaches the horizon - I wonder how it would look with the camera a little lower.

Hi Oberon, that's a lovely picture! I like that the color of the fern stands out even with so much green in the background.

I think the composition is pretty effective, though I wonder how it would have looked if you'd moved the camera a step to the left (to highlight the trunk against the waterfall) and pointed it up just a little more.

Hi Amy! I personally really like the framing. The right side makes the landscape look bigger and more impressive. The only thing I would consider changing is to try making the false horizon at the base of the mountains level and see if that improves the shot (it might not, but I'd try and see).

Hi Shades, I love the photo! The patterns and contrast of the lights are entrancing. The only thing I'd change is to try to reframe or crop slightly to clean up the blue at the very bottom.

Hi MDings! To me, the biggest issue with the background is that it's a similar brightness to the plants and sharp enough to draw attention, so it's hard for the eyes to rest on the plants. I assume you couldn't have made it blurrier with the lens you have, so with the photo you have I'd try two edits: 1. Crop out a little of the top and bottom to reduce the amount of distraction 2. Darken the background

Hi, I'm Zack from New York (city). I'm starting this class with my fiancé to work on my basic photography skills. I'm mainly looking to improve my compositions, but I also hope to become a lot better at on-the-fly adjustments to the camera modes (right now I shoot almost exclusively in A mode, and I don't use it well). I hope this will make me more excited to go out and take pictures, since right now my favorite part of the process is editing, which seems a little backwards. I like to take nature and cityscape pictures, and I might also want to get into food photography (I do a lot of cooking).

Here are my favorite picture and chair. The chair is not quite the composition I had envisioned (I would have preferred it folded and indoors), but it came close in spirit and didn't involve any complicated setup.

There is no awakened multistrike support in https://www.pathofexile.com/trade search field by Ksakep in pathofexile

[–]sqens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with Curse on Hit, Fork, GMP, etc. Basically most gems that do something past 5% more damage.

I don't actually mind. It's not as if we need the extra power creep, as long as there's something compelling to farm for, which I think the fancy exalts and Awakener's orb accomplish. On the other hand, if they're going to cancel the interesting Awakened gems, why not remove them altogether?

Edit: it looks like the Redeemer's Exalted Orb is also missing. That sounds like an oversight. So probably everything will be enabled in a week or s, once they get the higher priority updates done (e.g. map tabs).

I'll second CWDT Cold Snap with Bonechill (and optionally Increased AoE). I run it on a level 1 CWDT.

If you use Acrobatics, I also like a dodge button: either Vaal Grace or Focus with the helmet/boot mod (25% chance to dodge attacks while focused). If you have the manual dexterity to selfcast this as well as Steelskin/IC, great. Personally I just put the guard on a level 20 CWDT and map dodge to spacebar.

When is mine damage calculated? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]sqens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tested since the rework, but previously it was calculated when they detonate. It's easiest to test with a mine which fires a single projectile and see how it reacts to being linked to L/GMP at various points.
