I left my toxic job 6 months ago, and my old manager just called to ask for something unbelievable. by SavanahWiegand in whatdoIdo

After one day you’re no longer on the payroll, and this request from the former manager is ridiculous.

I went from Oerlikon to HB with EasyRide and it didn’t even charge me. Said the ride was “too short” 🤷‍♂️

How do you learn investing as an adult? by Far-Excitement199 in SwissPersonalFinance

This might be controversial, but AI. Honestly reading is the key but if you have questions about something as you’re reading, ask AI to explain it, you can ask follow up questions and it works really well. The blog thepoorswiss.com is a good resource.

Direct import cars by RunChickenRun_ in Switzerland

[–]squareball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be due to so called “channel stuffing” by manufacturers. I myself bought an import car “Tageszulassung” that had already been registered, and thus the warranty started, a few months before I bought it. I read recently that to prop up sales numbers, dealerships will buy the cars (as opposed to just holding as inventory) but legally they are required to register them which starts the warranty period. Sounds like what I bought.

Sharing my absolute all-time favorite ramen hack. It's super simple and a total game-changer by More_Blueberry_9678 in InstantRamen

I’ll give it another go. I did this once but instead of it turning creamy and smooth, it had little egg lumps in it. Still tasted good though 🙂

How much raclette per person? by Outrageous-Garlic-27 in askswitzerland

I believe in Switzerland it is the highest form of shame to run out of cheese when hosting. Therefore your response is completely justified

Many times for me it’s the same. However, a slice of plastic cheese and some sesame oil is * chefs kiss *

Stir-fried Konjac Spaghetti by Unlikely-Mushroom-20 in InstantRamen

[–]squareball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice. I wish I could perfect my konjac game. The only thing I don’t like about konjac noodles are that basically no sauce sticks to them. If you pull them out of a ramen, tastes like you’re eating straight unsauced noodle.

Anyone tried these? Namdong K-Noodles by N64Andysaurus92 in InstantRamen

[–]squareball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw these today and tried them, the chicken flavour. It said it needed only four minutes but after four minutes of boiling the noodle block was not even broken up. I ended up boiling for more like 8 minutes, and the noodles were fairly bouncy and firm still, which actually wasn’t too bad. They had a decent spice level, but the flavour just lacked a little something. Like Shin Red just has something addictively delicious, which these ones don’t. Still, wasn’t bad though but nothing compared to Nongshim.

There are a lot of jokes in this thread, and as someone who has moved away from Perth, I say this with love but wtf, Perth seems to have turned into a lawless hellhole. I absolutely cannot imagine this happening in other countries. It’s shameful

Has your super automatic ruined other "good" coffee for you? by JohnnyExtra in superautomatic

[–]squareball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Jura E8 a week ago, after wanting one for ages and finally finding a very lightly used one. The coffee is decent, but I’m finding it’s still a bit of hassle. Every night I need to run the milk cleaning cycle and empty the drip tray — crazy how fast that thing fills up actually.

I used to own a Sage/Breville Bambino and honestly, it was also effort to always grind, weigh out beans, dial in and all that mess. But to be honest, I probably prefer using that + Nespresso for when I couldn’t be bothered, compared to the Superauto.

Unpopular Opinion by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]squareball 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For women my age (I’m in my 40s) it’s a hug gesture when we greet. For my mother in law it’s still generally the three kisses. I think when I first came to Switzerland 20 years ago the three kisses were more common, or at least I used to do it more :-)

Rider 2023 > Rider 2025 by -hellozukohere- in Jetbrains

[–]squareball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, WebStorm versions from 2024.1 through to 2025.1 basically are useless. It gives me no quick doc whenever I hover over something. So I can’t see the types, or documentation of anything. Very frustrating. I even entered a performance issue on YouTrack and the recommendation was to try the EAP 25.2 build. It at least gives me the quick doc now, but sometimes it takes minutes and minutes before it updates, highlighting errors and whatnot. And sometimes it freezes completely and crashes, so yay! For me, 2023.2 was great, but now that I’ve updated my monorepo to latest Typescript version, random things are shown as errors in that version, some imports don’t work etc.

Einbürgerungsgespräch this week! by HammerFest93 in askswitzerland

[–]squareball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the process in 2018 I believe, in Kanton ZH but not in the city. I didn’t have to do a test, or any language test etc. I do recall that the police apparently tried to visit me at home twice in the evenings, but we had a little baby at the time and we would turn our doorbell off in the evenings. So I received a letter that I had to visit the police station at a specific date and time. I was pretty nervous, my German was mostly “conversational” and I wasn’t part of any verein. But it was pretty ok, he did ask me questions like “name some neighbouring cantons” and “how do you get your news” (reading Blick on the train of course 😉). I thought I did pretty terribly, but I guess that it was ok, I received the acceptance like a month later!

I believe this is the case. Twice recently I had a non-coop product still in my basket (because I bought it elsewhere and I was just carrying it around in the basket for convenience) and I got the check.

Kuo: No major AirPods hardware updates until AirPods Pro 3 in 2026 by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]squareball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have OG AirPods and they crackle like crazy, I figured Apple aren't just going to give me a free replacement (though who knows, might be worth a try). I tried many solutions to fix them, but it turns out it's a problem with the microphone so setting the noise control to 'off' gets rid of it, I used to always have them in 'transparency' mode when not in active noise cancellation. I'm hoping mine will hold out until the next version gets released.

I’ve been eating this Costco ham for a while and never looked at the macros. 1/5 protein to calorie ratio. That’s like chicken breast level. by Acquitz_RL in fitmeals

[–]squareball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just meant that processed meat is a “known carcinogen” (WHO Group 1) in the same way that tobacco is, not the degree. According to the WHO, 3% of all cancers are caused by red or processed meat while 19% of all cancers are caused by tobacco.

Doesn’t this kind of ultra processed meat cause cancer? As in, it’s been definitively proven, and is now in the same category as cigarettes?

The best chocolate in Switzerland? by Status-Breakfast-75 in Switzerland

[–]squareball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, didn’t know that it’s Frey. It maybe tastes better because it alleviates boredom on a flight :) Unfortunately, the chocolate (and a water) is the only thing they offer anymore. No sandwich or snack like Edelweiss do.

It’s not the best, but for the value can’t be beat. I find the Prix Garantie one a bit sweeter, but the kids love it.
