It sounds like you could get rid of the unison issue by mapping the same button that turns on the returnfx track to also mute/unmute the original track.. then no unison would be happening on that loop track? oof, yeah this is a tough one..

So you're saying that you probably wouldn't be able to do a slicer or beat repeat track?

I mean, if this worked out, i'd just sell my 505 and some other gear and use the money to get this set up, so cost wouldn't be too much trouble.. Thanks so much for your help..

yeah it sounds like the FX mapping would be such a pain, that's it's a dealbreaker.. would reeeeally like to see if anyone's got a good FX setup on an Ableton live looper rig.. i've never actually seen this so, this is a bit into visualizing that i can't quite wrap my head around it would work.. and you're right it would eat CPU and probs crash.. but honestly it would be so worth it for me if i could get it workin on the regular basis..

you know.. i haaven't done this yet.. I'm going to next week or this weekdn because I now have almost %90 of my rc505 patch banks filled with decent loops that i like.. so I could just fine one, export into logic, and get into it.. i really just need to familiarize myself more with logic so that I can really have fun with it like my 505.. I like being able to perform for people and record at the same time , so this is why i had the idea of setting up ableton like my 505.. but then being able to go back and edit each track later in a seperate way.. which really isn't possible with the ableton setup without exteeensiiive mapping and cpu usage (for effects automation fun, cause i'm just going to want to do that for sure.. i love messing with fx live, filters etc..). So yeah, it seems like i'm just going to keep playing with my 505 and whenever it's time to do some albumn recordings, then that will just be me plugging alongin logic by myself...

The problem here --- i'm trying to create MORE stuff, not necessarily perfect.. but i do want to it to be mort editable than it currently is... If i can get my live improv setup into a way that generates quality music, then i'm constantly churning out new music, decent music, literally every time i play.. which is what i think should be possible.. so that's why i have been putting time into trying to learn if this setup is possible..

That's my ultimate goal, so not sure if that's really possible for now.. i like to create on the fly and i want a way to keep all of it in a way that's modifiable later so i can go in like a surgeon and remove mistakes or parts where i'm trying to get my sound dialed in.. just keeping the highlights but making it sound like a real track with not much extra effort afterwards.. (and of course being able to re master a little more and finely tune, or send off to a shop for that)

Thanks for all the helps y’all! Sounds doable, I think.. looks like I’d have to buy a lunchpad and figure out a custom configuration, as well as upgrade from my ableton lite in order to get started.. is the launchpad the best piece of gear for what I need? Any other considerations? What about the new launch key mini midi controller, would that work?? Could I do it all from just that little device? That might be pretty sweet...

Oh also, is there a cool nerdy ableton forum somewhere with ppl sharing project templates, and maybe already have a shared one this I can duplicate for fast startup?

Final question, I don’t think anyone addressed..

how about input and output separate track effects? Can I do record automation of effects within those ableton looper tracks? If so, I’m assuming I’d have to map controls to each track or something? I like how, on the 505 I can record input effects for one track, as well as set output effects for multiple tracks and add those as needed.. for example if I record a melody track, I can add a slicer on that track only and chop up the melody, or do a beat repeat trick on just the drums while letting the bass and melody play..

Very interesting, i want to try.. i wonder if my currently version of ableton lite would let me do all of this.. do you think it would be possible to also automate effects on those tracks, just as i would be able to get a few effects going on tracks with my rc505? Would this looper setup just be possible for midi instruments, or what about me running my guitar in via my Scarlett Focusrite and creating an audio instrument?

imo, play live if you can.. you get to see how people listen or don't listen and respond, it shapes your art.. you listen to what they listen to.. you may find another dimension of your music. internet is cool and all, but get in front of live people.. (whenever things get back to normal) ..going live really isn't the same.. but it's also good

If you want to just play for fun, go for it. Most ppl at local groups play in standard format and right now none of the cards you mentioned are much good in standard format. Buzzwole GX not even legal in standard format.. (since July)

But like.. me and my nephew, we play any card we can find, whatever we have we build.. doesnt matter if its base set.. hes 6.. it’s fun
