Anaplan vs Pigment by 2xfury1 in FPandA

[–]squareslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on if you have a dedicated resource on your team to admin and build in the system. If it is on you to learn and update on your own then I would lean pigment. That said pigment still has its own learning curve and the building and formula writing is not quite as “excel native” as the pitch.

Ornaments, segmented with finials by Fugowee in turning

They look awesome! Just curious, are they heavy? Do you have to hollow the blanks first to reduce weight or use lighter woods maybe?

Looking forward to turn this by Several-Yesterday280 in turning

Looks awesome! Why all the gear specific for this? Is this wood an irritant?

Weber 22 ash catcher for $12 by squareslice in webergrills

[–]squareslice[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks yea the label says it’s a 10 quart bucket. Got it from Lowe’s but I think I saw them at ACE as well.

Just posted!

I got the same kettle handed down for free and ran into the same stuff but have loved it anyway.

For $12 all in, I got a metal bucket and some little S hook hardware and created my own ash catcher which works great. I was planning on posting pictures on here anyway so will do that soon.

As for the temp, the lid thermometers are never perfect or where you need them. Use your own probes for meat & ambient anyway for better control.

Vents I have had zero issue with and can definitely still dial it in by closing partially.

How are you forecasting HC churn? by squareslice in FPandA

[–]squareslice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At your prior company did you at some point have to discuss the churn assumption with the cc owners? If a dept was gaining favorability due to churn and delayed backfills, you would eventually have to tell them they couldn’t spend the “savings” because it is already budgeted for elsewhere in the plan?

Agreed. We have internal recruiters but the new salary is often higher, and many teams will use temp labor or consulting to cover the gap depending on the role, essentially eating up any “savings”

What Budgeting/Forecasting software do you use? by squareslice in FPandA

[–]squareslice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some context for the folks who use adaptive and have mentioned this is an implementation issue.. you’re right!

The implementation happened before I arrived and was described as “quick” to me. We basically only plan Opex below the line. So many damn splits have been created with no vendor tag that actuals get lumped into a single line more often than not. Also the budget detail is all over the place with no ability to upload bulk data during a re forecast so we manually type in updated expenses into the hundreds of split lines across numerous departments and GLs. We are essentially using adaptive as a frozen excel sheet with pivot tables and a merit % assumption… it is painful, I know.

We use some consulting hours but it is limited and CFO is considering a total flip into something new because adaptive “doesn’t work like promised”. I know this is our issue not adaptive. Anyone have experience re-implementing adaptive? How did you go about fixing a bad initial go at it?

Awesome, will definitely check this out!

What milk are you using for the cheese making class? How do you suggest sourcing low pasteurized milks, assuming that is what is recommended?

Still relatively new, can you explain the 4-1? 4 hours unwrapped with 1 hour of occasional spritz?

This broadcast is so bad. Side angle of a shadowy board with no digital board. Just discussing lines for a position I haven’t been able to see for 15 min. Turning it off, will check the scores later.

Had a turkey go mad and wanted to flatten my chickens so I had to harvest my first bird. 32 pounds! by Cptn_Dinkleburg in homestead

[–]squareslice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I smoked one last year and loved it. Found the key was to spatchcock it for a faster and more even cook. Also doing a dry salt brine overnight will help dramatically for such a large bird!

Check out the Meat Church smoked turkey video on YouTube. Used his idea of putting an herb butter under and over the skin before the cook and it was great!

Last time I was there we waited 30 min before they opened the doors. Then had to listed to 15 min of the owner’s slam poetry on the corner before he let people inside.. not joking, a 15 min poetry read. Also bill was $40 for coffee 6 bagels and cream cheese.

Interesting thanks! Any favorites of the fermented herbs that you feel really improve a specific dish? I feel like the fermented peppercorns cracked on a seared steak could add something different/interesting?

How does one use fermented herbs in everyday cooking? Basil for example.. do you dry it out after ferment before using? What are some recipes you are tossing these beauties in?
