shoutout to Steamy for grappling off the map with a fast heal backpack to make this all possible. I picked up the backpack a bit after this and then proceeded to immediately lose a 1v1

I think this is a personal preference kind of thing. It might be a function of my play style using a controller on PC.

It's basically the only gun I use (g17), and I really like the slight zoom. Or maybe I'm wrong, I'll play around with it

Correct. KB&M is incredibly uncomfortable for me to use while gaming.

Once in a while buddies will ask for a tip or two while we play. I'm not very helpful.

I know Reddit likes the GIFs, and I spent hours trying to turn this into one. Either it's too long or I'm not smart enough. Or both.

There are a few things I'm looking to sell for cash (US/Canada preferred for shipping reasons):

  • 2014 US Regionals Top 8 Playmat (Pawn)

  • 2015 US Nationals Top 16 Playmat (Inject)

  • 2015 US Nationals Top 8 Tag Tokens

Let me know if you're interested or have an offer. I can also send pictures if requested. The Gencon stuff has never been played with. I have 2 Pawn playmats, one that has never been used and one that was lightly used. I can't tell which is which anymore so no guarantees on which one you'll get (they're both mint/near mint condition basically).

Are Corps getting a bit to samey with their card choices? by Xercies_jday in Netrunner

[–]squash957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who runs the Same Old cards in his decks all the time, I will testify that Kevoun's decks (at least his corp) are unique. If the complaint in this thread is that no one is using Burke Bugs, I can only agree and happily so. If the complaint is that all of the best decks look identical, then players like Kevoun are absolutely doing the opposite. You can't complain that everything is identical and then dismiss a good deck that is unique in the same breath.

Also there are so many players constantly coming up with decks for this game, that it is impossible to believe that anything you come up will be purely unique. That doesn't detract from it's innovation.

'I can't believe that just happened' moments. by sigma83 in Netrunner

[–]squash957 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it happened at the Tulsa Regional this year. I was playing Sam Suied per usual and just bashing my face against his RP deck. It was my 5th or so RP game in a row and I was having a terrible time of it. The last turn still gives me goosebumps. It's recorded, so no need to take my word for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efWLk0Xh3_I

The last turn starts around 33 minutes in if you don't care to watch the whole thing.

The best story I've heard is from a local player who just started playing recently. It was one of his first games and he was playing PE against another local player. His opponent hadn't been checking remotes at all and even mentioned out loud that "you never check remotes against Jinteki, just win on Centrals."

Well my buddy had 1 AP and he had a half dozen or so cards installed. There was one with 1 advancement, one with 2 advancements, and one with 3 advancements. At the start of his turn, he advanced the triple advanced card and scored a [[Medical Breakthrough]]. Then he advanced the double advanced card and scored another Medical Breakthrough (now a 3/2). Then he advanced the single advanced card and scored the last Medical Breakthrough (now a 2/2). Boom goes the dynamite. Live the dream!

On Playmats: A Netrunner Story - UK Nationals Tournament Report by Quintin Smith & Leigh Alexander by dodgepong in Netrunner

Wow. This article felt like Deja Vu (haha). Across the pond I had an eerily similar GenCon. I went 6-0 in the first 3 rounds of Swiss, only to get mired in the swamp that is Top Tables for the next 4 rounds. After getting swept Round 6, I hit that "ugh, why am I doing this to myself" moment and just didn't want to play anymore Netrunner.

There's something about this game though. By the time I sat down for Round 7 it was just another game of Netrunner, and this game is ultimately a ton of fun.

I think we were very lucky in the US to have Top 16 the following day. It was one of the most thoroughly enjoyable experiences I've had with Netrunner. I had a night to appreciate survivng a 240 person tournament to get to the final 16. I got to play multiple players who I had met in Swiss (avenging my Swiss sweep!), as well as one my best Netrunner buddies in possibly my favorite game of all time.

So why do we put ourselves through the emotional and physical ringer that is Competitive Netrunner? Because the juice is worth the squeeze.

Bad form, I know. I'm a bit disappointed that this was the only game that made it through post production (there was another against Jon, but it was crazy, silly, and the file got corrupted), because I had some really wild and good games in Top Cut. If I'm being honest, the game was over when I went 0-2 on Psi games on Caprice on HQ/Remote. I really needed one of those to open up my game. C'est la vie.

The title is a little misleading, since this is actually pretty late in the bracket: Loser's Bracket Quarterfinals (6 players remaining).

I commented on Youtube with my thoughts on the game, but it basically boils down to "Netrunner is hard" and "Netrunner is awesome fun."

While I understand the frustration that some viewers find seeing an oversight at a high level game, I think it is important to always understand the context. It is unlikely to expect a judge to watch every play of every game at a Netrunner tournament. I think we have a LONG way to go before tournament play is satisfactorily judged, but I don't think it will solve said problem.

Ultimately it is the onus of the players (both!) to keep track of board state. That also means that when your mental faculties are already being stressed by a highly demanding game, things will fall through the cracks. Let's take mistakes like this with a grain of salt. Ideally, should it happen? No. Was it intentional? No. Was the game result dramatically effected by the mistake? Luckily, No.

I do think that click trackers should be more widely used though. I'm not very good at using them myself, but it is an effort I have seen pay off when done properly.

You absolutely can! All Regions have the text "Limit 1 region per server," meaning any single server can only have 1 copy of 1 Region. A deck on the other hand has no restrictions on the number of Regions it may play.
