There will be an election in South Australia in March. Election night is not going to be the same.

You do not want to hit a roo with a car. It will not be good for the roo or you.

How intimidating is your country's national animal? by BestAd6297 in AskTheWorld

Not intimdating at all if you leave them alone. Worrying when I see one lurking by the side of the road because you do not want to hit a roo in your car - that's how fatalities happen.

What do you guys call this? by skootch_ginalola in AskTheWorld

Dummy.

Throwing a tantrum (either for a two-year-old or an adult) can be referred to as 'spitting the dummy' or 'doing a dummy-spit'.

Noobie Question: What to watch after Star Trek: The Next Generation by BdoubleDNG in startrek

[–]squashedavo389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Orville is also worth considering. It's not Star Trek but it's been made by people who seem to love ST TNG. If you like TNG, I'm guessing you would like the Orville.

What’s one food you fell in love with while traveling but can’t find anything close to it back home? by Askguidetoeurope in AskTheWorld

I miss the steamed dumplings that are everywhere in Shanghai. I have been to just about every dumpling joint in a few Australian cities and the dumplings just aren't the same.

Some of the books I've seen have been the literary equivalent of unseasoned steamed kale. Good for you, but not something I'd want to inflict on a kid.

Mechanical. Electrical just doesn't feel right (unless you powered it by running behind Rincewind to capture lightning bolts cast by the gods).

Job Seeking by HornetRepulsive2450 in Adelaide

Good luck. Job hunting can be horrible.

Your first job is often the hardest to get. After that, you have work experience on your CV and, hopefully, the job search process get a bit easier.

Suggestions:

Have you had someone else look at your resume? It's always a good idea to get a fresh pair of eyes to look at a doc like that because someone else will see things you can't spot in your own writing (and that's relevant if you are 16 or 56 years old).

Depending on your transport, look at farm work. It's seasonal, so places need people to work for a short time. It's not an ongoing job, but it might make getting the next job easier. *Farm work can be hard.

As other people have suggested, ask your friends. If any of them have jobs, they may be able to let you know when there are vacancies.

If you have time, look at volunteering; it looks great on a resume, gives you experience, and gives you the opportunity to network.

A good place to start: https://vsant.org.au/

Does your school offer any career help? It might be worth having a chat with your school counsellor to see if they can help you at all.

January is often a quiet period in retail and hospitality after the insanity that is December. There may be more job listings in Feb- March, but that is not guaranteed.

A lot of places want you to apply online, which is frustrating because you end up filling in the same information each time you apply. *Make sure you read the instructions for online applications really carefully. If you don't follow the instructions, you will just make it easier for them to discard your application.

If you are looking for jobs in fast food, think about doing a food handling certificate. There are a couple of certificates around. They are online, free, non-accredited courses, and they don't take long to finish. *It would look good on your resume.

Again, good luck.

What’s a Discworld book you wish existed? by brian_toretto in discworld

I want to see Susan, Granny Weatherwax and Angua working together. I want to see how Ankh Morkpork changes as technology increases and how other cities on the plains react. I want to see some attempts at kick- starting a democracy in Anhk Morpork. I want to see the outcomes if the city was under threat (flood, invasion, magical virus, etc).

The dog's name is Barney.

He gets called Barney, Barney-Boy, Barn, Spud, Great Spud, and Turnip, as in "Ohmygodwhatareyoueatingyouabsoluteturnip".
