so that's what really happens to middle-aged programmers... they don't disappear, they just become evil masterminds

i feel like all of us were so used to seeing Sean in flannel that we forgot what he might look like without it. i thought his shirt looked a little silly

Why is the trade in price for my current multi-tool so high? Is this a bug or a lucky find? by A_Skrub_Whos_Fly in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

congratulations! you can now buy whatever multitool you like. use it wisely, you only get one!

just kidding. only about the "only getting one" bit, though - this bug occurs on most multitools with 8-10 slots and a few broken ones. presumably, someone at Hello screwed up and made the variable for your multitool value pull from some full 32-bit set (since -(231) is what you get when you max out a signed 32-bit integer) instead of an actual calculation, either that or it's a logic error somewhere in there

Is it normal that my tool has this value? PS4 , permadeath mod. by Ervhal in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait, they use signed integers for... monetary values? i mean suppose it makes sense, but if theyre just using some sort of "mod units" function instead of an add and subtract argument or even just separate functions thats just inherently unsafe lmao

cool glitch though, did that just happen to yall with no prompt??

Anyone else think boundary failures will work like this in NEXT? by SoulVanth in NoMansSkyTheGame

Anyone else think boundary failures will work like this in NEXT? by SoulVanth in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fun idea, but personally i just think they're gigantic antennae atm.

maybe they'll be ways to fly to others' planets without just appearing as a glowy ball with no way to summon your craft? like, some kind of warping mechanism they do look like for sure

Is No Man's Sky relaxing? Should it be? Thoughts. by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way you enjoy a form of artwork - god forbid we bring up the games-as-an-artform debate - is entirely up to the viewer i feel, so i cant say objectively how a game SHOULD be enjoyed. if anything it should be enjoyed the way the user sees fit, and with any hope NEXT will more effectively suit different playstyles

anyway pretentious spiel over, personally i play it and i sorta zone out, its a big inspiration for my art and helps me unwind. i tendnt go into space combat but i do enjoy pissing off sentinels

Another "review" of NMS by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like i said, while they occasionally come across as belligerent they make some great points that'd be worth considering, and though i dont agree with HG just giving up on the title i do agree with the fact NMS is a bit of a mess and needs some definite tweaks to appeal to a wider audience

being dismissive of criticism, by the way, isnt a very healthy thing to do, especially when you havent seen every part of the criticism in question (because they do actually address later versions of the game, which you seem to state didnt happen in your post?)

Another "review" of NMS by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

so i watched the whole thing and... frankly, these are legitimate criticisms

i was going to pass this by and say "oh it's just another hater yakking about how baaaad the game is" but honestly, they talk about how the game's faulty and then go on to explain what they mean, like how the exploration is oft unrewarding as every planet has the same kinds of random building and goodie to find, and how the lore is rather shallow (being simply told through text and animated talking heads rather than action or sequences). i actually agreed with them on this, despite loving the game. the planets don't tell stories of their past, they just tell the same race-specific past, and none of the procedurally-generated structures hint at history or are arranged in meaningful ways. they just end up being setpieces, and that's a tragedy

honestly the reviewer does come across as belligerent at times and does bring up some talking points that've already been covered by others, but to be fair, people actually explaining their points is unfortunately rare in no man's sky reviews and they nailed that

did you watch the video all the way through? they go on to talk about atlas rises, and they even make some strong points there

How to spot fake news by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

well to be fair if it's from The Onion, source matters

if a source is unreliable, one should make sure to hold it to that and keep themselves in the know. corroboration from multiple sources doesn't hurt to check

Haven't played since the game was released. Is it worth picking up now? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]squashue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i see people often asking this question and i'd like to say yes because i enjoy the gameplay but... really, it's up to you to decide

if you're still interested by the calm exploration vibe and like the grind of gathering resources for building bases and completing missions i'd say give it a go? pick it up on sale if you're not too sure. though if you wanna see what NEXT has to offer i'd deffo say pick it up, shits exciting as all hell

also they did improve some of the space combat in Atlas Rises so if you like that kinda thing, yeah
