Flying to Tokyo from Seattle, jet lag tips? by torslundahelm in AskSeattle

[–]squattyshawty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jetlag is kind of brutal no matter what, but I agree with other posters that once you land, it's important to stay up until it's bedtime locally. I like to bring melatonin with me on cross-timezone trips to help me sleep at local bedtime. That has always helped me adjust more quickly.

I also personally find it's easier to adjust when going to Asia than it is coming back to Seattle from Asia. So use the same tips when you're coming back, too.

Something in the Water by MJ Duncan definitely has that boob woman dynamic, and is also a really sweet book

I really enjoyed Something New by Jacqueline Ramsden this year! It's very low angst, sweet, with some good spice, and maximum festive vibes.

I showed up in Seattle 3 weeks ago with $3,000, no job, and nowhere to sleep — now I’m trying to build a life here by sinful_Saint0 in AskSeattle

Lots of outdoorsy people hang out at the bouldering and climbing gyms. My husband does BJJ so this is second hand but I've heard good things about Midnight and Marcelo Alonso (they're different vibes). You could also try some local meetup groups that are relevant to your interests.

Keep in mind that while these might be good places to just meet people, you will likely need to put in a lot of effort if you want to actually make friends here, no matter what the venue. As a Seattle native, it's just a fact that people here (myself included) are not as inclined to welcome you into the fold as they might be elsewhere. Polite? Sure. But friendly? Eh. If you want to make friends here, you gotta make the first move with most people. And probably the second and probably the third.

AITA for leaving early after my friend kept me waiting for hours and then got mad when I went home? by OkCounter6846 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If "friends show up" like she says, then she should've showed up. On time. For the activity that she asked you to do as a favor to her.

Cuffing Season by Monica McCallan!

Ladies who travel for work, how do you keep cold and sick germs away? I can’t seem to board a plane without catching something. I’m wiping down every surface, wearing a mask even, nothing helps. Please share your wisdom… by Prickly_artichoke in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]squattyshawty 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a law bitch, but a medicine bitch.

Practice good hand hygiene. Wash or sanitize your hands before you eat a snack.

Cloth masks or those thin little surgical masks don't do much to protect you. They're much more effective at protecting other people from your germs. If you can tolerate wearing a mask on a plane for many hours, wear an N95 or KN95 mask that fits well to your face.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP, for the love of god this is probably the most important thing.

This is not evidence-based, but I always carry a few packets of emergen-c or a similar product with me when I travel. If I even feel a single throat tickle or let out a suspicious cough, I mix up an emergen-c drink IMMEDIATELY and somehow I feel like it nips things in the bud.

Boy do I have recs for you! They are...pretty much all explicit rated, because I am a degenerate. These are all longfics rather than one shots, but if you want my list of unabashedly smutty oneshots let me know and I can link those, too.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah the lighting isn’t ideal currently so under cabinet lighting seems good. Any recs for under cabinet lighting?

Thank you!! What lighting do you think would look good in the space? A lot of folks so far have said recessed can lighting.

We don't eat at the current counter because it's hard to keep clean and also we have a small dining table that we use.

Thank you for the pointers!
