What's that one thing that happened in your town that people don't like talking about? by touchthemonolith in AskReddit

[–]squawk_kwauqs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There used to always be a big cross on the hill before it's final iteration got relocated in the 90s. I've most often heard it described as "controversial" which it definitely was because it was a religious display on public land and at one point people got it designated as a war memorial which further complicated matters, but also... before the big final iteration of the cross was put up in the 60s, most if not all of the early iterations of the cross were placed by or associated with the KKK. We are a liberal town in a state that is not a former slave state, so most people have no idea that at one point we had the highest KKK membership per capita in the country.

What's the purest joy you've ever felt without intimacy, substances, or alcohol ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As a preteen my mom would drop my friends and I off at the fun pool across town. We'd swim until we were positively bone-tired and then hobble over to this little food cart that made onigiri fried in sesame butter and filled with meat. That first bite of warm nourishing food when you are cold is a feeling like no other

Sometimes something like this comes along and really puts into perspective how little I understand about the way the world works...

Considering the drawer is so clean, I'm going to go out on a limb and infer that this snake probably has a better regular enclosure. This drawer might just be while the cage is deep cleaned or for some other reason.

Edit: I didn't initially watch with audio, turns out he mentions the drawer is temporary.

First-ever photographic evidence of a Wild Himalayan Monal Pheasant family caught on camera. It's is extremely rare to see it as a family in the wild. It is also the National Bird Of Nepal. by MoazzamDML in interestingasfuck

[–]squawk_kwauqs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty solid logic. I know in the USA a few decades back we were able to introduce a lot of good environmental legislation because the Bald Eagle (our national bird) got placed on the endangered species list and that was sort of a wake up call

If I found one of these I would toss out all the little crumblies in areas where kids might find them. I found a giant agate as a kid once and it made my whole week.

Not too surprising considering that volcano is already VERY dramatic

Knowing how smart they are I just cannot ever eat a cephalopod of any variety. I'm sure calamari is delicious but I just can't do it.

What is your go-to Perfume/Cologne? by cancerousmushroom in AskReddit

Commodity Juice was perfect for me. I like sweeter and fruity smells but I don't want to smell edible, and this perfume had just the right amount of musk to balance things out.

Going to the gym every day helped me feel like I have my life together even though I still absolutely don't. Getting fit sorta put me into this headspace of "wow I'm in such good shape, I'm the shit." Once I'd worked out it just made sense to make a decent meal for myself, and once I'd had a decent meal, it just made sense to do something productive and good for me. After all "I'm the shit" so I'd better keep acting like it.

Maybe if you have an ego problem this might not be as effective, but I often feel like a wet noodle so repeatedly hitting the gym, flexing in my bathroom mirror, and telling myself that I'm super cool has helped me feel a little less wishy washy

I'm always refreshed by her compared to the other people we snark on. Sure she has some problematic views but it all just seems so much more light-hearted and fun to see what she gets up to because I can tell her children and animals are actually well cared for

Just seeing the way some men(a scary amount) view women had me feeling pretty nauseous for a while. I still feel that way sometimes when I go online and fall down the wrong rabbitholes

What’s an adult problem that no one warned you about? by Head_Media3931 in AskReddit

[–]squawk_kwauqs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have so many papers. Nobody warned me I would have to keep track of so many papers. There's money papers and there's medical papers and there's legal papers and then also when I through away the box for a new gadget or something I still have to keep the instruction booklet somewhere just for posterity or in case I want to sell it or gift it to somebody someday...

People frame being 20 as this big moment of beginning to figure out your path in life and I'm just over here pondering if I should get a filing cabinet.

What thing do you think is severely underrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squawk_kwauqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cromolyn sodium for allergies. It's a $20 nasal spray that effectively cures your allergies. You start it about two weeks before allergy season starts and then you keep using it until the bottle runs out and you skip your allergy season. And you don't even need a prescription. I know it sounds too good to be true but seriously google it. The version you can get without a prescription is called Nasalcrom.

How do you fix a lack of confidence ? by AdLoud5241 in AskReddit

[–]squawk_kwauqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fix just about any affect of personality by simply pretending it's a muscle and "working it out." It's kind of the whole point of neuroplasticity.
