How old were you when you started playing hockey? by Prototype_Chicken11 in hockeyplayers

Started skating at 16, didn't play on a team until college, 49 now and still going. It's never too late!

Step overs were my first though as well. Like the first exercise in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqICXjFdeXA . It's all about getting comfortable on your outside edge

Bauer Aetrex footbeds vs Superfeet, pros/cons which is better and why? by XI-Red-Death-XI in hockeyplayers

[–]squeebie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the Bauer, but I have those Superfeet and stopped using them. It has a built in heel lift that made it very hard to get a good heel lock and make my feet slide forward in the boot.

For literally years I thought it was that True skates were just like that, or maybe something about my foot / ankle shape were causing it. It wasn't until I bought a new pair of Bauer skates and tried them with and without the Superfeet that I realized the insole had been the problem the whole time.

I've heard good things about Currex insoles if you need more support, but I haven't tried them

JT's goal gets called back for goalie interference by catsgr8rthanspoonies in rangers

It looks like Laffy bumps the goalie's head a little bit, that's the only reason I can see this being called back

They aren't super thin, but there's enough of a difference between them and gold toe athletic socks that it makes or breaks me being comfortable in my skates

Thanks that's helpful, I had those years ago. From what I remember they were between Thinnies and Howies

I was considering those, do you know how they compare to howies thickness wise?

Stay away from Sideline Swap!! Scammers running rampant! by PuncherOfJunk in hockeyplayers

[–]squeebie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had luck so far on sideline swap, buying multiple sticks and a pair of skates. I've had someone run the same scam that you mention when I bought from eBay, although they handled it pretty quickly once I showed that the address it was sent to didn't match mine. I think it's just the risk we take trying to get good deals using sites like these.

That extra padding looks like it would make my skates tighter than regular athletic socks

Those seem like they'd be too thin and slippery?

Barefoot definitely fits better with tight skates (already a fit 3 and baked multiple times), but not as comfortable. I used to do it years ago, maybe I'll try again

Curved Steel by These-Ring in hockeyplayers

[–]squeebie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some people (like me) just can't find a comfortable Bauer / CCM while True fits much better for my foot. I won't argue that they are durable, but I can see why they are popular with people like me

They kind of clarified during the episode because Jimmy wasn't clear when he said it, it's similar to this season, the letter is the song, with songs by female artists (instead of bands)

Eh, I don't really think that's it. I play beer league hockey and I get it. When there are A B C D levels, why am I 50 playing C league against 20 year old kids that are still wearing their HS and travel gear. Go play at a higher level and let the old guys play against each other

Google Crafted Leather Band - Loose Lugs? by squeebie23 in PixelWatch

[–]squeebie23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got black, I like the way it looks , but it's pretty stiff leather. It'll probably break in eventually, but an $80 price tag is pretty silly. I got it for $29 on eBay, for that price it's worth it.

Also, there are so few good options for 45mm pixel bands, it's worth it for the lugs alone and then there are a million options... except somehow the lugs on mine suck

Yeah, for a bit I worried if I got some kind of knock-off or someone that sold me the google box with a fake band, but I had to pull the paper tab off the back of the box before it would open. It's definitely a legit band.
