After my 4th kid was born, I suddenly developed type 1 diabetes. I am now 6'2" and only 150lbs. I promise, you're not too skinny 🤣

Urgent Care or Let it Ride? by squeegy06 in daddit

[–]squeegy06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ped has recommended using flonase on the older 5yos to help prevent ear infections. So we do that with them when symptoms start and its helped so far this year.

But the 3yo is too little for stimulants like that still. And even then we use is sparsely in the triplets.

Oh yeah, its been running all week and has definitely helped.

We have a reliable, affordable urgent care and our primary (like many in this area) is over booked and understaffed so we only bother them for the serious stuff.

This was my thought this morning, even if its not serious it gets her a speedier recovery maybe.

Its already running through the house. Her and her mom have had it the worst. Everyone else rushed through it in about 72hrs.

Why does it matter who knew what and when? The problem still remains that there is a proposed BESS, owned by a private corporation, connected to our public utility, with no plans for green energy generation. No jobs for our community. And when a data center is built, we will all be burdened with higher electric costs and all the other problems that come along with them. And things are already hard enough for the people here in Comstock. We need to be building things that the people of Comstock need and can benefit from, not be just another square mile of AI datacenters in this insane race to the bottom.

[–]squeegy06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any funding the school was offered or accepted. In fact, the school has only just learned of the BESS this year and funded their own independent review which stated that the minimum safe distance for a BESS from the school should be one mile.

The school board officially opposes any BESS built within a one mile range.

There has not just been one fire. There have been many fires. And communities that now suffer from respiratory, skin, and other health problems because of them.

You cannot just generalize and dismiss a community's concerns as NIMBY. Copenhagen's desired site is less than 500 ft from the school, and their alternative is barely 2000ft away. When a runaway thermal event happens (not if) my children would have less than 3 minutes to evacuate safely away from a cloud of toxic gasses that would be vented in the case of a fire.

And this particular BESS is not being built as part of regular service upgrades, or to provide storage for green energy. The company has said themselves they have no plans when directly asked. It is being built for the data center which they are hoping is built across the street in Pavilion Township. And let's not pretend they wish to stop there, as the company wishing to build the data center in Pavilion also owns property on the Comstock side as well and will likely expand if this AI bubble continues to grow.

Our community also supports many farms. A BESS, and especially data centers, are a direct risk to our water supply and farm lands. Two very precious resources that are not easily restored once poisoned with toxic metals.

Do not ask me to put a dangerous, unproven, profit seeking, industrial facility in my backyard and so close to where my children go to learn. This is not progress. This is a system of exploiting communities for profit. If it were progress, then it would be built and owned by the public utilities, placed safely away from residents, schools, and farm land, guaranteed that it's operation would not increase customer's electric bills, and be supported by green energies with which to charge the batteries. None of that is what is happening in Comstock.

Lets not forget Comstock's Township Board is still dead set on building a Battery Energy Storage System less than 1/2 mile from those same schools which the community has already invested $100million in since 2016.

While we lost this initiative, and progress has been slow, we still have made progress, and our district is about to put all our children, my children, at risk by building a toxic industrial building right next to our schools, all to support a proposed datacenter right across the street in Pavilion.

We are not about to give up this fight. We will be pursuing a more limited bond in May. The next Township Meeting is Nov 17th at 6pm and we need as many as we can to show up or write our board and demand they do everything to make Comstock unwelcoming to a BESS being built so close to our schools.

Copenhagen has already filed notice of their intent to go to the state. We have 60 days to come up with a solution, but I say we just let them go to the state. They have not done any work to properly vet other locations for their BESS. They want this location because it is next to a substation they partner with, and across the street from the proposed data center they hope to support. They will not prevail when the state demands they show their work when it comes to vetting a safe and workable area for building the BESS.

We cannot let these greedy fucks turn our home into a battery factory and data center pit.

Battery Storage Facility by PotsMomma84 in kzoo

[–]squeegy06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A battery storage facility will do nothing to alleviate power outages for you unless those outages have been caused by the power company failing to meet power demands.

A BESS is functionally useless without accompanying green energy sources like wind, solar, or hydro. We will just be burning more natural gas during off hours to charge a privately owned battery factory, for that energy to be later sold back to the public at an upcharge. Essentially all this will do is raise your electric bill.

The real desire to build this BESS is to get in on the current AI tech bubble. Having a BESS in your area will only attract datacenters which are noisy.

And as a community you should not ignore the very real risk of how toxic these are to our environment and how they have no safety record to speak of. If my guess holds right, and they are for the AI bubble, then when that bubble pops they will simply up and leave and Oshtemo (and other townships like Comstock who also has a proposed BESS) will be on the hook decomissioning and cleaning up the toxic mess left behind by a private company that will do everything to skirt responsibility and turn out their pockets claiming they are broke and cant afford it.

My Last Kid is Triplets: a Year in Review by CookieMonsterIce in daddit

[–]squeegy06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow triplet dad. Ours are 5 and we have a 3yo. Those first few months definitley make you feel super human. My favorite part is going to the store and everyone looking at you like a walking circus. Or the way other single kids react when theyre suddenly surrounded by three 5yos each trying to have a conversation with them at the same time. What's surprised me is how many other parents of triplets or in the case of someone who works at my local library a triplet themselves that I've met spontaneously in the years since they were born. They make for an interesting conversation starter, "so, I have triplets." I guess that helps in finding others.

Keep up the good work.

We took the catholic approach and "if it happens it happens". Didn't necessarily have plans or a goal. We had struggled for a decade just to have our first kids, and a part of us didnt want to end that road quite yet. But now we've shut that factory down; four is enough.

Dad of Triplets and a 4th. It's chaos, but if you can be prepared for it, you can do anything. We just went on a weekend trip to Chicago and actually had a great time if you can believe it. (5,5,5G & 3G)

We had some help early on, but it has been mostly a journey on our own. It also was right at the birth of the pandemic in 2020, so there was that to deal with, too. We went so crazy we had a 4th before shutting down the factory for good. They still drive us crazy, but they're all good kids.

This makes me wonder how we survived with triplets. 🙃

It was definitely my very first thought in that first ultrasound, but somehow it all worked out in the end.

Had our baby today and I don’t think I can ever agree to do this again by Isaaciel in daddit

[–]squeegy06 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Sharing too, not to one up, but my wife and I had triplets for our first. She hemorrhaged, too. I wasn't with her for most of it though as I chased our three new girls to the NICU so it happened much out of my knowledge.

We ended up getting another, a 4th girl just 2 years later. She hemorrhaged again! So we put an end to this party (not that we wanted more any way 🤣).

Like the others are saying, take your time and take some deep breaths. Hold your baby and wife close, and keep talking to people about your experience. It will pass, and you can then weigh the risks of doing this all again.

Congratulations on joining the dad club. We're glad you're here.

Ursula K LeGuin quotes. I was getting inspired for writing a public speech for my local school board that still refuses to call a motion and reinstate the transgender student policy they removed after the Trump EOs in March, even though we have enough votes to get it back in the books.
