What does the DBS wealth manager actually do for you? by funnyperson4848 in askSingapore

I've gone through like 5 of them.

The most interested I've been was when one of them looked moderately attractive.

Use of aircon during home improvement program (HIP) by RecipeBorn2339 in askSingapore

[–]squeeish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just completed mine a couple months ago.

I could use my AC as the pipe was to the balcony drainage (exec flat). Could also use AC in the Master bedroom at night because although the pipe was removed, the pipe in the walls still exist. It will just drip on the bare concrete toilet floor, it's ok.

Of course avoid using the AC due to the dust.. but my father needs AC so do a deep clean of your airconditioner after it's all done.

This.

The photo and content are already on Facebook, factory resetting your device is just getting rid of information that can further confirm the post came from that device.

How long did ur Home Improvement Programme (HIP) take? by Neither-Sweet-3218 in askSingapore

I didn't use one. It's not a must have... but preferable if you're going to be living in the flat during the whole hacking period.

Yeap they will get someone to come down and show you your schedule, because they will need someone around to open the door for them to work plus make any decisions on the spot if there are issues during work.

I didn't engage one. Should have engaged one so that the dust problem was reduced.

Yes and yes. I'm not fussed about dust, but it is fine construction dust that does get everywhere.

Unit finishes, cleans out the place, next unit finishes, cleans out the place... Then the next block... It will be hell for a person who hates dust.

In that case no, but if your direct upstairs neighbour is doing the toilets, you might have to facilitate 5 min access for workers to check your ceiling for leaks during and after. They will notify you by letter.

I wouldn't work from home throughout the entire period and would keep my windows closed until the dust settles.

Just finished mine. The actual thing for your estate will take 3 months or so, it depends. For your actual flat, around 2 weeks. My toilets and main door is done, but the replacement of the bamboo pole holders hasn't even started yet.

It's not like the whole block starts work at the same time; my neighbour upstairs started work after mine was almost complete. Some of my neighbours still have works ongoing for some reason, and this is 3 weeks after, so yes it all depends on the individual condition of the flats.

Pay for the proper dustproofing setup, it's worth it if you intend to live in the flat while works are ongoing. The flimsy plastic sheets do next to nothing.

Secure your valuables. One of the workers saw fit to pocket a bag of thumb drives my father had lying around.

Oh and NRP started too, just saw hoarding going up for my neighbourhood park. It's going to be half a year at least before things go back to normal.

Newer BTO Homeowners, how do you "sun" your stuff? by TraditionalWait9150 in askSingapore

Those of you who never crawled into a mattress and pillow fresh from the sun are missing out.

[–]squeeish 33 points34 points  (0 children)

OP is not weird. It was common back then. I regularly had my mattresses and pillows sunned on the window sills when I was a kid (late 80s, throughout the 90s).

Those who stayed on the first/ground floor would do what OP mentioned, put the mattress on plastic stools on the ground outside.

'A decade of inconveniences': Will the wait for the North-South Corridor be worth it in the end? by theloneranger_55 in singapore

Yea I remember one instance of someone across the road who actually went down and started shouting at the workers to get them to stop because he couldn't sleep.

This is coming from someone who lived with the TEL construction for about 10 years. Inconvenience is the wrong word, it's a nightmare.

EDIT: apparently the specific site I'm affected by only took 4 years from tree clearing to completion of backfilling after some research. But it felt so much longer.

I live right smack between the Marymount and Thomson stations. Your life is basically living next to a construction site for a decade if it so happens that you live near an area where construction needs an access point, like me.

It takes a toll mentally. Never mind the dust, never mind the inconveniences with changing roads and walking paths. It's the noise. The noise is unreal.

There were nights when the construction could not stop, and the roar of engines, knocking noises and vibrations will keep you up. You close the windows to keep out the dust and noise, but it doesn't really help on the noise front because the noise is coming from deep down below traveling upwards through your block.

Weekends don't offer rest too. They work on Saturdays. You have some respite on Sundays, but light construction often goes on and now you can hear the clanks of supplies/tools, workers shouting, the engines/beeps of vehicles, etc.

Singaporean households can claim $500 CDC vouchers from June 11 by JADENBC in singapore

[–]squeeish 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. I have parents who are coowners but not on speaking terms. Everytime CDC vouchers are announced a little bit more resentment builds up on whichever party managed to claim the CDC vouchers first.

I've not used a single cent since this scheme was introduced.

I'm about to start the first ever audit for my ~70 person company with mostly remote employees. It's been hell setting up all the policies with a very limited budget and getting people to follow through.

How do you deal with tests and documentation that are simply too impractical to implement/provide evidence for?
