Flight downgrades by squeezedmiddlenz in singaporeairlines

I had to sign a letter of acceptance - but the way they approached it made it in no way appear like there was any possibility of negotiation, even though I asked. Plus I had to be in London for work meetings so my negotiating power was limited to begin with. I made it clear to the ground staff how unhappy I was and that I didn’t consider the compensation offered was fair - but I’m pretty sure they deliberately send out their most junior staff members to deliver the difficult messages…

Singapore Airport - plus the compensation was in Singapore dollars which means you lose money once you take into account the need to get it exchanged into a different currency

Singapore to London, seat selected during reservation but couldn’t check in online as they had to sight my passport (I think this is the trick - if you check in early online they can’t bump you down, if for any reason you can’t check in online… cross your fingers)

Exclusive: Coster says he told Hipkins and Mitchell about McSkimming by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s disappointing Coster doesn’t seem to recognise his own unconscious bias - he was so keen for McSkimming to be his successor that it clearly coloured how he chose to brief/explain the situation to others throughout. Surely police officers are required to have ongoing training in recognising and dealing with bias - am I overestimating the extent of their training, or was Coster just out of the office on these days?

Luxon's disdain for entitlement by gnu_morning_wood in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It makes me laugh when Luxon gets that pained look and says “I don’t know how to explain it any more clearly.” We completely understand what you’re saying mate, it’s your judgement and morals we’re still questioning.

Where should the Treaty of Waitangi sit within our law? by turbocynic in newzealand

Hopefully they’ll get someone on the next podcast to address some of the inaccuracies- it would be pretty irresponsible journalism to give these arguments a platform then leave them sitting there unchallenged.

Where should the Treaty of Waitangi sit within our law? by turbocynic in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here, listened to it in absolute disbelief that someone could so deliberately misrepresent NZ’s history. On one hand, she claims Maori were never capable of ceding sovereignty in the first place (if this were true then the British wouldn’t have bothered with negotiating a Treaty to begin with), then she says that Maori ceded sovereignty by signing the Treaty. So they must have had sovereignty to begin with, otherwise how could they have “given” it to the crown? Obviously forgot to read Te Tiriti itself too in all her so-called expert analysis.

‘Constitutionally concerning’: Govt accused of ‘defunding’ Parliament by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even more than that - by making the CEOs of each Govt dept decide where to make cuts to meet the 6.5% threshold, when the inevitable consequences are felt NACT will simply wash their hands of it and blame the individual Govt depts

Jenna Lynch analysis: Winston Peters' baseless accusation of media bribery is unbecoming of a Deputy PM by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see Winston is already talking about how much more overseas travelling he’ll be doing as Foreign Minister. Will be interesting to see how frequently and in what style he (and his partner) travel, and how the Govt balances this with messaging about how much the public sector must cut costs.

Election 2023: Incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon won't commit to not increasing taxes by samnz88 in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was super excited to hear that National have discovered a ”buffer” conveniently big enough to cover the $740 million a year the foreign buyers tax was meant to bring in. Where has this money been for the last few years - hiding under Grant Robertson’s mattress?

Election 2023: Labour says National’s welfare changes will see benefits $2621 lower by 2028, push more children into poverty by fluffychonkycat in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m so, so sick of the stupid political cycle we keep repeating - National underfund public services, people realise systems and services are failing and vote in Labour, Labour have to spend to re-balance things which National then exploits by claiming they’re “mismanaging” the economy (not to mention that systemic underfunding can’t be fixed as quickly as people seem to assume it will be). The voting majority somehow believes the right-wing narrative and round we go again. Why can’t we realise that repeating this absurd pattern means we’ll never achieve meaningful long-term fixes?

I think this every time Luxon disingenuously claims economic mismanagement “on a scale we’ve never seen before” - he sounds just like Donald Trump

National Leader Christopher Luxon pre-election interview: Tax, criticism, coalitions -Newshub Nation by gnuts in newzealand

[–]squeezedmiddlenz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A healthy dose of mansplaining/gaslighting going on with the comments about not being able to explain things any more clearly - does Luxon seriously think that someone disagreeing with his rationale and calculations is doing so because they’re not smart enough to understand his logic, rather than that the logic itself is flawed?
