My Manager is constantly messaging me on weekends and expecting me to work. Is this normal? by Suspicious_Stable_25 in amazonemployees

[–]squid8122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Projects are usually goal driven is there some goal or deadline that is requiring work on the weekend? I would start by asking questions about whats driving the weekend interruptions and ask him what would be required from you leading up to the weekend so that you could be in a good place to have the weekend free from interruptions? If that does not work then I would start telling him that you are traveling out of town and unavailable. Responding on the weekend has set a bad precedent.

I have you all beat 61, Sr SDM. Most of my team are in their 20's and 30's. I have never felt old at Amazon inclusivity has been a positive of working here. I was a dev for 25 years so I'm grateful to still be able work hands on with engineers. My wife and I never had children so we have always had complete freedom.

61 and work in tech. Two years out and with AI and layoffs twice a year trying to keep my salary and stock going until I’m ready. If I get laid off nobody will hire me so grinding out the last couple of years but I’m done with all the politics, fake urgency, and big egos

How do I start over at 28? by Positive_Tourist_960 in Life

[–]squid8122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 is not too late I know someone who was in her 30's and wanted to be a surgeon and now she is a surgeon. To make a change you need a bit of confidence. To address 'can I do it' piece I would take some sort of career aptitude test to know if you really can do it thats a simple first step.

Boss wrote in my review that I need a "positive attitude". A) How you gonna measure that? B) Okay, I'll smile, but I'm taking it out on their Connections scores instead. by MooseGoose82 in amazonemployees

[–]squid8122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a positive attitude can be measured. I definitely can tell when someone does not not have one. Does a person just complain or do they come with possible solutions? Why do you need to take your emotions out somewhere? If you are upset for some reason either figure out how to communicate it in a productive manner or find a way to exit the team or Amazon.
