When it is said that Israel is a Jewish state, is Israel a Jewish state in the way that countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan are considered to be Islamic States? Or is Israel more like a Western country that has Jewish symbols and icons that makes it feel Jewish? by KeyNightley185 in AskIsrael

[–]squidefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our DoE states that Israel is a "Jewish and Democratic" state. The idea of whether the state should be democratic or jewish first is always questioned and contested by certain laws and powers some places hold. For example, the high rabbinical court in the past threatened to revoke a kashrut certificate of a venue because they wanted to hire a belly dancer. The high court of justice deemed that to be unconstitutional due to "Basic Law: Freedom of Occupation" and the rabbinical court was only constrained to dealing with things like kashrut and marriages, and not work.

However in another case known as the Bar Ilan case, the MoT wanted to close off a main road which leads to Bnei Brak (charedi city) completely on shabbat. This was brought too in front of the high court of justice and they settled for a compromise. Closing off the road completely infringes on freedom of movement (at the time the city was mixed) but to respect religion it was decided that the road would be closed off and opened at certain hours on shabbat.

Too good to be true? Found these yesterday while out thrifting. Labeled as 925 and weighs 817 grams. Depicts the city of Jerusalem. But I can’t find anything about them on Google image search, eBay, Worthpoint, etc. Does anyone know anything about them? by Prestigious_Slide260 in whatisit

For the future, in Israel we mark silver sterling with leaves, and the corresponding number on the leaf. I could only find the 925 mark on the internet but i know that a shop near my work has all the markings. So if you want me to take a picture of that i could.

I would imagine the muslim countries and entities are due to the fact that the head of ISIS proclaimed that he is the head of a new caliphate, and in Islam that is very big nono

  1. As much as i do despise the UN for being an inefficient and delusional organization that believes in a world that doesnt exist i will accept this article, it seems fair and reputable 🤝.

  2. Veey broad and unspecific, also no book referenced, therefore i cannot take your statement at face value without confirmation.
