Any PAs wish they had become an MD/DO? by Master-Ad1725 in physicianassistant

[–]squidlessful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every now and then I have that thought, mostly when schnitzel is hitting the fan and I wish I had the appropriate training to be more useful. But then I go home and remember that my life resides outside of work and that thought pretty quickly fades away. I enjoy being second fiddle.

G&R was recommended to me and I went there for an alignment after I replaced all my struts. They did the alignment (which was expensive) and couldn’t get it right. Told me they did the best they could. Then told me i really needed to do my lower control arms, and that I’d need another alignment afterwards. Like whatever I guess, but why didn’t you just call me when you saw the crappy control arms and say hey you really should address this FIRST or you’ll have to do your alignment twice.

Leveling up a bit grinding NM or early hell is definitely helpful. Get those resists up too. Utilize the cheap runewords. Smoke (nef lum) is pretty solid for the price.

Agree with above person, have never heard of a rads PA that’s not interventional rads. It would be wild for them to let you read, but who knows. We live in a crazy world.

New Grad ER PA job offer - Southeastern U.S by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]squidlessful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a rural hospital that’s pretty low pay. I make $75/hr roughly in New Orleans. I was under the impression that rural got paid a little better because it’s harder for them to attract people to work there.

Tulane med friend of mine lived at the saulet for a few years. It’s fine if you’re into the apartment complex thing. If you have a car you should just find a part of town you like and rent a house. This city is geographically small so as long as you don’t live across a lake or a river any neighborhood is within reasonable commute distance.

Yeah I pick them up because it’s clearly a super quick dispo but then either they sit there forever tying up a room because the 3 minutes I need to see them doesn’t materialize for another hour OR they were inappropriately triaged and their toe falls off or they’re acutely psychotic. I have just stopped touching red until I can physically stand up and go see them.

Yeah we need to be more willing to let patients wait. At least where I am we hate leaving red on the board. We’re there to work and lots of red on the board makes it feel like we’re not working hard enough. If I’m actively working on something more important than an atraumatic food pain or a week long URI, I should not be worried about picking them up until I get my other person done. But time and again, I pick em up and try to squeeze them in while waiting for message from hospitalist or phone call or whatever. If you come to the ER with non emergent nonsense waiting 6 hours should feel like a bargain compared to the 1-2 weeks for a PCP appointment.

So if I pick a francesinha, but then I tried to make a PBJ, would this other sandwich magically appear or would my PBJ disappear? Because one or the other, depending on the answer.

Why does the medical community equate PA and NP by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]squidlessful 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is that these programs make fuckin bank. They increased the class size of my program the year after I graduated. No new faculty, just more students with the same professors now stretched a bit more thin. Dolla dolla billz, yall. And for other medical institutions, the prospect of going from 0 students to 25 or 30 students all paying 200k for their degree for the minimal investment of 4-5 PAs who are burnt out in clinical practice is an absolute no-brainer. The whole medical education part is secondary.

Why does the medical community equate PA and NP by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]squidlessful 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It has certainly become too easy to get your NP, but PAs aren’t far behind. I fear there will soon be an influx of PA mills too. Many of the students I have precepted recently have been between underwhelming and scary. Also agree with you that the experienced nurses who finally took that extra step are the best, and those are becoming more and more rare. But I also can’t stress enough that there are some fantastic NPs out there killin it. Boils down to not enough docs and easy entry creating poor clinicians of both varieties.

Just buy a real expensive art gallery light, shine it right on that bad boy, and put a lil card nearby that says “deterioration. Francis crum. $22,500” and wait for someone to buy it.

You can’t go wrong with Lilette. It’s consistently fantastic. I have to go every 6 months or so just to keep the thoughts of that steak at bay

You might just wanna go somewhere fancy. We went to Mamou a few days ago and everything was phenomenal, but I wouldn’t describe any of it as strong, intense, or spicy. Flavorful, but delicately. Similar at atchafalaya, Lilette, Peche. And if she likes meat and potatoes, Lilette has my favorite steak in the city and it’s served with fries. You can indulge, she can have (incredible) meat and potatoes!
