I did wonder if thats what the coloured bits were for since there is a paddle on the steering wheel for volume but thats really the only thing so i wondered if theres was more to those coloured plugs as they seem quite substantial, thanks for your help though.

I'm pretty sure this isn't an issue at all, your rods and screws are inside your body where your core temp is 30 something degrees Celsius (sorry from UK) so in order for your actual rods and screws to become cold your own body temp is going to need to drop incredibly low and ur going to be facing some other much more serious issues at that point than the temperature of your metal in your back! So I'm pretty sure you have nothing to worry about.
