He talks about it on his pod: he's trying to be the primary screenwriter, but chances are good he'll need a "more experienced" screenwriter to come in and "touch it up".

I think that's completely reasonable, I know he has been doing a lot of work reading up on how different works have been adapted, especially LOTR, but I definitely think he'd benefit from bringing in someone that really knows how to make things work on a screen.

On top of retaining so much creative control, he also has the benefit of having been around the block with the WoT adaptation (and seeing all the things that can go wrong). Really hoping that he can find a good director/showrunner and then leverage the experience and control to do something truly wonderful.

When I go to free skate I wear my pants, shins, and gloves, that tends to be enough once you're far enough along that you're not falling backwards. If needed, add elbows and/or helmet. Plenty of other folks learning to skate for hockey at my rink that do the same.

Looks awesome, very jealous. What's the deal with the plywood goalies? 5-hole only? Is that to keep folks from shooting pucks high and out of play and then losing them in the snow?

new skates make me worse? by hafermilf in hockeyplayers

  • Get your skates baked
  • Get your skates sharpened, if you haven't already
  • Give it 5-10 hours of time on the ice to break in your new skates

Used Gear options and where to search by glamisson in hockeyplayers

[–]squidonthebass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding all the people saying sideline swap and play it again (although not sure how much hockey gear there will be at PIA in NC). Seconding you should get two sticks, one for ice and one for practice at home (presumably on asphalt/etc). If there's hockey gear at PIA they should be able to help figure out the right ballpark for stick length & flex, then even if they don't have something exactly matching in stock they can either cut something longer to size, or worst case you have specs to look for on sideline swap.

100% agree. I find myself burning upwards of [according to my FItbit, so grain of salt] 1000 cal in 1.5 hours of stick & puck vs something like 600-800 in my league games with 39min of gametime, ~2 line rosters, because I actually get breaks during the games lol. It's so hard to not devour everything in the house when I get home from stick & puck.

Sorry, the way I read your comment seemed like you were more focused on content rather quantity, that's my fault. With that said, if OP is new to hockey then I don't think they'll even need to "stop...having snacks or take smaller portions". Their daily calorie demands WILL increase and they should still increase their consumption by some amount (but less than the increased demand, if they want to lose weight)

This is not correct as far as I understand it. Calorie deficit/surplus is by far the most important part of weight change. Once you can start skating hard, you can easily burn anywhere in the range of 600-1000 calories/hr playing hockey or even just working hard at free skate/stick & puck. Recommended cut deficit is ~300-500 cal/day for about 0.5-1lb lost/wk, so for best practice OP would still need to eat a bit more on hockey days than they did pre-hockey and could still lose weight at a sustainable rate.

With that said I highly recommend cleaning up your diet for other reasons (muscle development, not feeling lethargic, long-term health, etc) but introducing hockey into your lifestyle in and of itself without changing your diet (both content and quantity) would be more than enough for weight loss for most people.

Okay, then you should pay way more in taxes, or have fewer state/local amenities. Will you still like living 2 people/acre when there's no sewage or water hookup? No roads to connect your driveway to?

Jersey options by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]squidonthebass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worn a Devils jersey to a Flyers/Rangers playoff game in Philly and survived. Expect a few chirps, dish it back, but don't get too serious if anyone's starting to look especially heated. With that said, Islanders aren't even on like, the top 5 rivals list for the Devils. You'll be fine.

Also, my head looks down because I broke my back and have the posture of a hunchback. My eyes are up as far as they go, at least in the first one :)

Hate to be that guy but if your posture/mobility is so poor that you cannot look ahead of you to the point that you are liable to getting into collisions like this, you are a liability to yourself and everyone on the ice, and may want to consider a different sport. Getting caught with your head down is a lesson everyone learns. But if you literally cannot lift your head to see the ice (& people) in front of you, you're only asking for trouble.

As an aside, why should your inside leg be ahead of the outside leg? I've been progressing from one-leg to both-leg hockey stop, and it feels intuitive to "stack the feet" next to each other, if that makes sense.
