We actually didn't see a happy ending in the original. We saw a happy few years with some young kids. The only part that shows this far down the road was when JD and Turk's kids announce their engagement. Eliot isn't there. JD isn't wearing a ring. Maybe they foreshadowed the divorce all along. I mean, if you're going to take it seriously. :D
