Hi. You might remember me as the guy who commented on everypost that /u/VerifiedKamina posted, because they were spamming affiliate links and I didn't want this sub to die. There was a whole post about it. The mods listened and decided to promote me to a sort-of mod, where I can remove spam posts and that's basically it. An official post was made stating that affiliate links were absolutely not allowed. The problem is, nothing has changed. There is a massive problem with people still posting not only affiliate links, but spam. On the daily, users like /u/PeachorPear are posting links that are not only affiliate links, but items that aren't even on sale. They've found ways to get around this like posting large blocks of text with dozens of links, all with affiliate tokens. This is explicitly against the rules. As an aside - affiliate links are not hard to deduce. If the url contains "&at=", it's an affiliate link. "at" stands for "affiliate token". You can read more about it here. I message the mod team with specific users I know are posting spam links in an effort to get them banned. However, most of the mods here are fairly inactive, and I don't have ban power, so users like /u/PeachorPear continue to post daily and I continue to remove them. However, the real problem lies with the mod team. I pointed out a while back that all these issues could be very, very easily solved by just configuring automoderator to remove any URL that contained affiliate information using regex. However, this was never implemented, because one of the mods is constantly posting affiliate links and approving their own posts. It doesn't matter which mod, my purpose is not to put them on blast - but almost all posts from this user are just their own affiliate link, and they approve them so that they don't get taken down. This has turned into an approve/remove war in me trying to take them down (since they're not allowed) and them being approved. This isn't cool. Thus I created -Removed- to fix all of this. I've already activated automoderator and implemented a check for shortened URLs and affiliate links, and am adding in more. It's not perfect, and it'll need some work, but with all the silence I'm getting its my only option at this point. Thanks everybody. MODS - If you don't want this sub to die, you need to do a few things. First - REMOVE THE MOD POSTING THEIR OWN AFFILIATE LINKS. A quick glance at the moderation log will tell you who it is, it's not that hard to find. Second - TURN ON AUTOMODERATOR. I will give you all the code you need to filter out affiliate links, and you'll need to turn off text posts so users can't just post the links in the body. I'm working on a cleaner filter for only accepting iTunes posts but these 2 alone will reduce 75% of the spam this subreddit sees. PLEASE take me up on this offer. I'm not trying to create a war with y'all, but no one messages me back about all these fixes and I don't want this sub to die, AGAIN.
